What broadhead will you refuse to use and why?? And not just "Anything but 'mybrand'." What has failed you and how has it failed? Give me a little more than "I wont use 'ThatHead' cuz they suck."

I won't use a mechanical broadhead because I don't trust them. A fixed broadhead will never fail to open. I use muzzy and g3 montec. Both fixed blade.

Just don’t buy fake ones off eBay and you will be fine.

Killed a lot of stuff with mechanicals, hybrids, and fixed. Actually only issues I’ve had are replaceable blade fixed broadheads breaking blades but they still killed the animal in similar fashion.

A razor sharp fixed blade broadhead is all you need. Preferably a name brand that has been around for a while and time proven.
Fixed blades have been around since they were made of flint and taking game.
If that fixed blade head fails it's usually on the Indian shooting it!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I won't shoot Montec G5s anymore. They went to a cheaper steel that is not holding an edge and impossible to get razor sharp. Thunderheads are out. Have had two lose blades shooting through shoulders.
I like fixed blade heads but face it, wide cuts equal more blood on the ground. Out of my compound I shoot Rage heads. I shoot CE Piledrivers out of my single string bows.
Most heads are fairly well constructed today but confidence helps. If you can get it razor sharp and put it in the right spot you'll likely have good results.

I have shot Montechs for years and still trust them but they are older versions likt 10+ years old that I have for the most part and easy to sharpen to a razor edge. I just keep sharpening and using. Now that I am shooting recurve mostly 150gr stingers get the nod. On the Crossbo I will use mechanicals but have also used and still use the 125gr Montechs purchased years ago. They are stil accurate and work.

I have had a couple failures with expandable heads recovered the deer but after a longer tracking job than needed. Luckly both were double lung hits. One was with an early model that only one blade opened and the other one blade deployed after punching in between ribs through one lyng and that blade opened in the second lung (early Rage) Sfter that I switched back to fixed heads where the only failure I ever had was a couple blades breaking off an old Wasp still got the deer, the older shooters might remember those that you could tell the blades were made from razor blades

I've shot a variety of heads over the years. Only head I really didn't like was the Magnus Stingers. All three were one and done with bent blades. I prefer mechanicals on deer and fixed on hogs. Shooting NAP Hellrazors for my fixed and Grim Reapers for my Mechanicals.

I have had the Steel Force broadheads fail on me before. These blades have a long front area, and the blade breaks apart right at the front of the ferrule where the void area is in the main blade. I had 2 of these do this. If you go with a fixed blade, you have to make sure they are tough enough to not break off. Not all fixed blades are created equal.

The other one is the 2 blade Rage. I won't use these again for stalk hunting. I had the blades come loose from the rubber band when walking around when I needed to make a shot. So, I won't use anything that is held in place.

The one's I use now are the Slick Trick 4 blade broad heads. These blades are locked in the ferrule and are protected more. They penetrate deep and kill very good, and are a very tough broad head. I've had good luck with these over the last several years. I won't use anything else now. When you have a broad head break apart and go in about 2"-3" on a pig due to a weak broad head, you switch real quick. When I shoot an arrow, I want an exit, so I don't want a large cutting surface area broad head that cuts an 8" gap in the animal. A 1", 4 blade broad head with good shot placement is perfect. My secondary broad heads are some I found on clearance that are 3 blade and lock into the ferrule also. These are great for small critters.

Another vote for Slick Trick 4 blade bread heads. I use them on deer and hogs. They've never let me down.

God bless John Wayne!

I won't shoot rage 2 blade. Had an arrow deflect upon hitting the animal. She dropped in her tracks because it deflected straight up and into her spine but won't shoot something that deflects.

I like mechanical but won't shoot one that has an o-ring or band of any kind. I like spitfire and grim reapers.

I reuse my Slick Tricks all the time as long as they are not damaged. Resharpen and back it goes. If damaged, replace blades and continue.

A study was done recently in a controlled military hunting reserve (limited access, someone needed to check people in, etc so they knew the hunters there, what they used and if they shot anything and recovery data on bow/xbow only land)) and the results were pretty shocking for type of broadhead used and type of weapon used.

compound bow, it didn't matter whether fixed or mechanical was used, recovery rates were essentially the same between both at around 80-82%

for xbow, mechanical had a big advantage in recovery vs fixed (I can't remember the stats but it was around 92% vs 70% or something like that).

For all shots, the recovery rates between xbow and compound were similar recovery around 80-82%

I wont used fixed brodheads anymore... to many 100% reliable mechanical heads that do massive damage and leave much better blood trails

NAP killzone is what iv been using

I do not like oring style as much but I still use them plenty no issue with failing on either one

I've had two blade Rage heads skip right through animals. But there is always a massive wound channel and a short blood trail I can jog down so I can live with that.

I use rage hyperdermics and love them. Always a blood trail with those.

I will not use MH on deer. My set up is just not for MH's. I've shot swhackers and slick trick raptors on hogs. Both hogs were around the 100lb mark. No pass thru on either. Both fell dead in sight, but did not like the penetration or the like of, on either. The raptor never opened up on impact. Was not impressed. I'll stay with fixed heads for deer. Been using Muzzys for years but would try others. Shot placement is key.

I have had Rage 2 blades, fail to open on impact, and once open in flight. Muzzy 3 blades is all I will shoot now

X2

Heavy poundage bow, quick arrow and a wide opening mechanical = quick death.

I won’t use a rage, as many have mentioned, I’ve had blades open prematurely...twice when drawing back.

I use rocket sidewinders and wasp jackhammers and have been very happy with them. I give a slight nod to the Jackhammers

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I haven't had a Rage issue since they came out with the plastic collars instead of the O rings. Every animal I've shot has died in 80 yards or significantly less. And Squiggy, if you've only shot two pigs, you don't have enough data to formulate a conclusion yet. I've shot over 200 with archery equipment. I've used Thunderheads, Muzzy, Spitfires, Rage, Slick Tricks, Grim Reapers, CE Piledrivers, Elite Woodsmans, two different Grizzly heads, cheap azz Cabela's mechanical heads and probably a couple others I can't remember. Believe me, a Rage head will drop a pig within 100 yards if you do your job and put it in the lungs or heart.

Two perfect shots, one 16 yds and one at 10yds is all the data I need. When using fixed heads, those shots blow thru like melted butter. I don't have enough of speed to shoot MH's. Having a short draw length, I'm losing FPS.
I'm still gonna try a few more MH's, but only on hogs. I lost a real nice 9 point 3 years ago when I shot it at 6yds. quartering away from me. Hit the top of a rib bone and that's as far as it went. If I had shot it with my muzzy, I would have taken out the heart and watch that deer drop. Instead, I watched that deer run off with all my arrow sticking out.
