I recently upgraded my vortex viper on my rifle to a SWFA SS and moved my old vortex to another rifle I had that im intending for my son to shoot.
About 5-10 years ago when I bought the Vortex I had issues zeroing it on my rifle. On a 20 MOA base the scope didn't have enough downward adj. to zero. I changed the 20 MOA for a 0 MOA and it still lacked a good bit from being able to zero at 100 yards. Finally, per the recommendations of a user on here I bought some Burris signature Z-rings and maxed out the downward adjustment on them and was able to zero the scope with a 1/2 MOA of downward adjustment left yay lol.
Long story I always thought the issue was with the rifle/receiver I had it on and not the scope. This weekend I mounted the vortex in a set of Warne rings on a CZ 557 and tried to bore sight it by looking down the barrel and again ran out of adj. a good bit before getting anywhere close to a bore sight zero. Since CZ's have an integral dovetail to mount rings etc. options are few and far between and seemingly further between when looking for 30mm rings. Anyone have any luck with sending something like this to Vortex for service? Im planning to call them later today, but after reading a bit on their web page think they might tell me to get some adjustable rings/bases and im not interested in doing so. I torqued the rings per the manufacturers specs and nothing appears to be binding etc. either.
thanks,
matt

Print off the return label and ship that scope in.
IMO, it’s not if you’ll need the Vortex warranty, it’s when.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Send it to them explaining the issue. Adjustable rings are NOT a "fix." They will repair/replace and send it back to you.

Wow. That scope would have gone back immediately if mine. Good luck.
I hope it was not me that recommended the Zee rings...

Another Vortex broke down thread, shocker.
Print the document from their webside, box it up, and ship it. I am about to have to do it for the third time, the second time with this particular optic.

The reason I question it is because in their warranty blurb on their web site it indicates they might just tell me to find adjustable rings/bases etc.
Judd was the suggester of the Burris signature Z-rings and it was a fine one. They accomplished the task at the time and look good to me. I mounted my SS in them also I never had a problem with them.

It isn't broken, it holds zero and tracks and returns to zero fine. The SS definitely is clearer, especially on the upper end of the power range.

He was exactly right. Zee rings are partially for this exact purpose, to gain travel somewhere in the scope. The only issue I have seen with Zee rings is scopes slipping in them due to recoil. Therefore I do not use them any longer, nor do I use Vortex rifle scopes.

Mine didn't slip any and its not on a heavy recoiling caliber. Installed correctly and torqued per the manufacturers specs.
I own the scope and other than this have never had an issue with it. Im not going to sell it until I have an issue I cant get around. If I cant get them to pull through on this it will be leaving my possession one way or another.

Cynic! I believe Mr. JG was trying to say, "The best thing about Vortex is their lifetime, no questions asked warranty. Amazing customer service." haha, even I can't help chuckling a little about a Vortex break down. Sorry this time is at your expense, chevy.

I've run 100% failure rate on my non-Razor Vortex products the past several years. My Vortex scopes purchased 5+ years ago are still going strong. With the possible exception of their Razor line, Vortex will not be getting another cent from me. My personal experience with their lifetime warranty and customer service has been pretty horrific.
Send it in and hopefully they fix it. If they do, then immediately sell it and apply the money to a better scope manufacturer. If they do not fix it, sell it to someone you do not like.

Out of 14, have had an issue with two. On one the turret base was loose out of the box, tightened it up but was still concerned. Second one my dad dropped out of a 20ft ladder stand. No paper work or questions ask, handed them to the guy we know at the gun shop we frequent, he handed us a new one. In and out the door in 5 minutes both times.

I knew the some would trash talk the vortex, they just cant not do it.
I do not think it is the best or even great. The glass/clarity is lacking when compared to other options. I wouldn't and wont buy it again, but to me it remains an ok option for when I bought it and what I wanted out of it. It technically functions the same as it did the way I bought it, im just not willing to put up with the hassle if I can get them to remedy it. I wouldn't have been willing to on the first rifle if I wasn't partially convinced it could have been something with the action receiver. Ive had it on two separate guns do the exact same thing now with good mounts bases and set up all around so im inclined to have them stand by the warranty and make it right.

DIP Industries makes some good rails for some CZ rifles but do not see your 557 on their page, EGW does make rails for the CZ 557 for sure o MOA and 20 MOA. But I would go the way of sending the scope to Vortex first

I looked at some of the rails that would work and I believe all would have the scope mounted pretty high, I would prefer to work with dovetail rings and the dovetail on the receiver.

On my CZ 527 with the DIP rail using low rings works and gets me a little lower than the CZ rings that come with it

Guy Clark has a song "Stuff that works" I understand that song. And I understand Vortex, I might have a bit of repeated experience with them. Don't shoot the messenger that says the British are coming.

Im not supporting or condemning vortex.
Oh by the way I don't know if you remember but years ago you recommended the vortex to me as a suitable option lol. I guess times and opinions have changed.

Was it the 6-24 PST?
Vortex makes a good scope, but they do break down from time to time. I've had them and liked them. I've had them break down. Anythin below their Razor line is not a great scope for a serious precision shooter that's running matches with big money on the line and what not, but they're typically more than adequate for a "normal" shooter.
I'd be willing to bet that Vortex will get you taken care of. Their customer service is good.
Have you had the SWFA 5-20 HD out for a spin yet?

Its a viper HS LR. Pretty much same as a PST but no illumination and a capped windage turret.
No shots fired on the SWFA yet, but as expected it is heads and shoulders above the vortex... I also paid 3x more for the SWFA than I did the vortex, I got it on a really good sale... but I also bought a demo from swfa (which looks new to me) so I got a discount on it as well.

Oh by the way I don't know if you remember but years ago you recommended the vortex to me as a suitable option lol. I guess times and opinions have changed. And since then, they have proven themselves to be unreliable. More experiences and more stories have happened. A good reason to trust scopes that have been reliable for many years, such as the SS 5-20X. I've got 7 years of time with one, and it has never been sent in for repair.
