I'm thinking about replacing the molded, one-piece plastic seat in my tripod with one of those with a fold-down back. As some of you know, it can be a little awkward getting into the seat of a tripod when the platform is small or even non-existent. My thoughts are that I if I switch to a seat with a fold-down back, I can swing my leg over the seat when getting into it, making it easier (and safer) to sit down. However, two thoughts come to mind.
First, all the fold-down boat seats I've seen have permanently attached, foam cushions in them. I'm thinking the cushion will be soaked with rainwater until it has time to dry out. With the cheaper, one-piece seats, you can drill a drain hole in the bottom and swipe out any residual water by hand before sitting on a dry cushion.
Second, it seats you have to be careful with holding onto a fold-down seat when exiting the tripod so that you don't slip and fall.
Anyone have much experience using the fold-down boat seats in a tripod or other type of deer stand?
TIA

I have one that has been on my tripod for over 10 yrs. Works great. I did drill a couple 1/4" holes so rain doesn't build up. I also leave the seat folded over when I leave, critters don't like being on the angle. Had it home to repaint stand and feeder. I made them both.

Ours all fold but they're up most of the time and we lost the back off one (still sits okay, really good butt design apparently).
