Any other THFers every go through quitting dip? Ive dipped for 10 years, and my only break wasn't by choice 7 years ago for two months in boot camp. As of now I'm at a month free based off my own choice. Id like to here some success stories out there?

Dipped a little years ago but never really enjoyed it. Congrats on your "month free"!

There's a good post in the health and fitness forum about it.

Toughest thing I've ever done. Ride the waves and don't give in. Don't replace one bad habit with another. The mind will destroy you or will pull you through.

I'm much stronger than nicotine, drugs or alcohol. Good luck!

Have read that people said tobacco is harder than any drug to quit, especially partnered with alcohol.

Yep. I'm 8-9 months quit on Copenhagen and quitting pretty much got me to quit drinking also. Still drink a little now but not like I once did. I probably go 3 or 4 days without thinking about a dip. A craving will only last a few seconds now and passes. Dipping was the hardest drug I ever kicked......by far.

I quit Copenhagen almost 18 years ago next week, if I remember correctly. I dipped for close to 25 years. I have had a few over the years since then, but never got back to the can a day habit I was on when I quit.

Funny thing was, when I would try and quit, I would throw all my snuff away and would immediately crave it. As long as I had a can on me, I wouldn't crave it. I carried a can with me until I didn't rally think about it any more.

Copenhagen burned a hole inside my bottom lip. Scared me so bad quitting was easy.

I quit 10-12 years ago. I swore to myself that I wouldn't ever dip again. Sometimes I would dream that I was dipping and would wake up really disappointed in myself. I haven't touched it since the day I quit, but sometimes on long road trips I still miss it.

Ive had 3-4 of those dreams just this week, I wake up sweating, and it takes a second to register I didn't really dip. ANd in my dream, I still know I shouldn't do it but do it anyway. Crazy stuff really

Tried all that crap when I was 12-14 years old. dip, chew, weed, coke....didn't like it then and never did them again. I drink some beer and every now and then a stiff drink. But can go weeks and weeks without either. I look back and it was just plain peer pressure and those that were not strong enough to tell their friends to go fuk off got addicted.

They call snuff chew up here, weird to me. Never could figure that out.
Good luck, tobacco is hard to quit unless you really want to.

I quit about 2 years ago cold turkey, dipped since i was 16. hardest thing for me was the cold sweats for the first week or two. I tried quitting while in college and a few years after but i couldnt get past it. Honestly what got me through was my wife and how her dad died from cancer.

side note- i believe dipping also gave me an immune system problem, 3 years ago i lost all my hair, called alopecia areata, i believe it was caused form nicotine getting to my immune system and my diet at the time (when i was a single man). At the time, i did not think it was dipping related, but looking back, it is without a doubt it was related.

If you really want to, you can motivate yourself through the bad times.

I dipped 3 cans a week for the last 12 years or so. I recently quit tobacco all together. The problem with dip is the nicotine levels are so high, it is hard to quit. I also just enjoyed it so much. Here is what helped me.

Zyn and a couple other brands make non-tobacco nicotine pouches. On Zyn's website, you can see where they are sold around you. They come in different nicotine levels, if you want the highest level northerner.com has a good selection. These helped to have something in my lip and get a nicotine fix. You don't have to spit with them either. They don't give as much nicotine as a dip, but it helps.

I also got a vape thing. This helped with quitting tobacco more than anything else I tried. I don't like the image it portrays of using one and now i'm using it all the time. Also, since they don't have much long term info on the health effects, i'm not completely comfortable with it. My goal is to start reducing my nicotine level on this thing until I don't need it any more.

Sunflower seeds and chewing gum also helps when I'm feeling an urge. Good luck!

I stated this in the other thread, but it's not always the nicotine that you're addicted to, it's the habit of the oral fixation. It's "something to do". That's the hardest part of quitting is breaking the habit.

Quit cold turkey 6 months ago after a 30 year and 1.5 can a day habit. They say only 5% of people who quit cold turkey make it 6 months. I used that as motivation. Do not use nicotine replacement (gum etc) you will just get addicted to that instead. Everything about quitting sucked. I am just now starting to feel "normal". Still have 1 or 2 cravings a day but they are fleeting and gone within a few seconds. Gum and toothpicks helped but telling myself i was tougher than the 95% who try and fail is what has worked for me.

I have same dreams about smoking cigarettes that I quit over 20 years ago.
