Thanks. It is an 11 yr old Canon 500mm 4.0 IS lens. I shoot as low of ISO as I can with most of them being at 100 ISO then f4 most of the time at 1/80 to 1/125 exposure. Most of the pics are going to be in the 15' to 45' range at a water trough. I also set my camera and lens with one small centered focal point.

I knew it had to be a long lens! Its tack sharp-Handheld or tripod? At 1/80th you could probably get by with hand held.
I'm a Nikon guy and my longest is 400mm.

Thanks but at my age, handheld days are long gone. Manfrotto tripod with a Manfrotto 393 Gimbal style head. I will go down under 1/80 from time to time also on overcast days if the animal or bird is still.
I started with Canon way back in 1979 and a friend of mine got me into the digital photo gear back in 2003. I bought a Canon 20D and Canon 100-400 IS lens to start with that year. Been hooked every since and still learning to use the equipment like it should be used.
