I have this old model Kenmore gas stove/oven.
It's an old basic model, no convection or exhaust fans.

Yesterday, the oven started making a steady high pitch whistling sound. It started right when it makes its "whoosh" sound to preheat the oven.
It wouldn't stop whistling until a few seconds after I shut off the oven.

I was going around it and sniffing to see if it was leaking gas, which it wasn't.

I turned the oven on again and it'll start whistling after about 30-40 seconds when the burner lights up.
I opened the door and it's still whistling, so there's no door seal leak.

It's definitely coming from inside the oven, down below, where the burner and ignitor is.
Been researching but I'm finding complaints of other symptoms.

Other than the whistle, the oven works fine.
Heated up a pizza to 400 degree with no problem.

What's yall's input?
I don't smell gas, is it safe to continue using it like this?

Google says it is the ignitor or the gas/air mix vent maladjusted.

Check the burner operation. Remove whatever is covering burner, look if any of the burner holes are plugged or partially blocked.

Your looking for an irregular flame. Small of non existent in one area and high or lifting off in remaining area.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

are the flames blue or yellow?

right on the burner or just above it (1/4" or so off the metal)?

light it, open the burner area and see if there is any flame where it should not be, you may have a crack in the piping or burner.

are you on natural gas or propane?

yellow flames on the burner
natural gas

my GF called me and told me she started the oven and the kitchen stunk with gas after 5 minutes.
I told to shut off oven, dont turn anything on, and leave the window and door open

Im thinking of just getting a new stove. I got this one for free with the house 5 years ago, and was made in 90s.

Thanks yall

Yellow means incomplete combustion. Also likely CO which will kill you. You may just need to adjust the gas/air mix vent.

Or replace....if you keep running it, the combustion chamber will eventually soot up to the point of inoperable....not to mention kill someone.

sound like regulator died and it's allowing gas thru at full supply pressure (hence yellow flame, too much gas, not enough O2).
Check your local Habitat-4-Humanity ReStore - I've bought late-model ($1000+) ovens for $100....
