Have you been getting in your pre-season skeet practice? Is your retriever all tuned up? The Benelli Nova or SuperNova 20 ga. shotgun all cleaned and oiled? Camo hat, shirt and pants washed and pressed? You got your cooler and shootin' stool? Machete to make a hasty blind? Stocked up on boxes of Wally-World promo target shells? The Toyota Tundra all gassed up? You have your choke tubes and wrench handy? Who here can boast that they can consistently bag a dove limit with no more than a box of 25 shells per daily bag, at least over MOJO decoys? There is nothing more exciting than to see a well-trained dog working the dove fields. Dover poppers wrapped in jalapeno and bacon, yum!

PS - don't forget the click counter, game wardens aren't reputed to be forgiving of lousy bird counters who run over the limit

Like normal, Thursday night I'll be scrambling around getting gear together and making sure I have a couple Mojos that still flap. Then all I gotta do on Friday is get ice, beer, and snacks along the way.

Then sit around Saturday waiting for Sunday to come?

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I stay ready. Still got the shotgun and a couple boxes of shells behind the seat of the truck from last year.

Haven't done a thing to get ready yet. But I still have 5+ cases of ammo from last season and shotgun is out, so that's ready!

I shot exactly two birds last year so I'm still ready from then. At least the migratory bird census will be easy.
I'm gettin old so I told my youngest I was going to hunt from a reclining chair like I was in an elevated layout blind. One with a shade awning on top.

Gotta see if we have birds at our place and come up with a last second plan B if not. Also need to fix a stand and move one. There are always hogs and beer that need a killin'.

Haven't been as eager and ready to go in the last 2 years. Lost 1 of my spots, so don't have a place to go on opening morning anymore. It was all about opening morning for me. I've never been on a dove lease, I like knowing who I'm hunting with, and knowing I'm not hunting with a bunch of idiots. Well there are a couple idiots I hunt with, but i know who they are, and can hunt far away from them.

I've seen something that looks like a camo half umbrella that you sit behind.
Anything for a buck.
