How often would you guys recommend replacing the 12v feeder battery? I have 12V motors and Solar Panel setup - they run 2x daily for 3 seconds, year around. The batteries are now 1 year in service.

Assuming they have a solar panel on them not till they die.
I have good luck pulling the batteries every so often and putting them on a charger to get a full charge maybe once a year or so, but don't have to.

The more you let them go completely to zero, the faster you will have to replace them.

we get about two years out of ours and they are hooked up to solar chargers. I think they just bake inside the sheet metal feeders is why they have to be replaced at all

When they don't charge. I have some going on 5+ years. If you have good solar chargers they should maintain.

Whenever they no longer hold a charge. No sense in replacing until they’re bad.

I still have one 12 volt that is going on 7 yrs old now. The other 3 I had to replace after 4-5 yrs old. Years ago batteries would last 10+ yrs, but nowadays they won't get anywhere near that. A lot depends on where they were made and materials used. I have had batteries that were still good but the spade clips would corrode off in the humidity down here. My solar panels have turned yellow and even after cleaning them they faded bad. Time for some new ones in the next year or so.

I don't have a charger, and I just checked my battery today. I installed it about 12 months ago. Still going strong. I'll likely replace it next time I go up.

I've got some running 3-4 years and still going, but the one in the back yard never seems to last more than 6 months.

To me, depending on how often you go to your lease would factor into it. If your not there regularly I wouldn't let um run down totally. 20 bucks isn't much in the scheme of things during hunting season. I replace mine every other year whether they need it or not...

1 - 2 years for us normally. But with a good solar panel facing the right direction we have gotten 3-4 years. Bought a 6v/12v battery tester to field check. Eight backups right now in the camper. Will charge each for an hour and then check. Nothing worse than a dead battery for sure!

All of our feeder batteries are on solar chargers and most have lasted 3-4 years. I always have extra batteries for back up just in case.

It never hurts to keep a spare or 2 around for emergency sakes. For me it depends what brand you buy.

I have four feeders with rechargeable 6v batteries. I have one spare. I go to property almost every weekend and when I do I change out one of the batteries and take that one home and charge it for the next weekend. So, I change out batteries about once every 4 or 5 weeks. Most say 90% charged when I change them. But that's my habit and how I do it.

My old Sweeney is still going, those old ones are tanks. Have a Herters that I bought 7 or 8 years ago at Cabela's that has not missed a beat, replaced the battery after I think 5 years

I used to replace them when they died.
Last year one died 3 weeks before rifle season started.
I spend 2-4k a year on corn, lease, food, and travel.
$20 a feeder is chump change to keep all of them working smoothly. I started using solar chargers 3 years ago. I thought it would keep them working, I was wrong.
