https://www.nps.gov/bibe/learn/news/closures-to-promote-desert-bighorn.htmI know TPW/NPS have a tough job to do but it seems that this should be offered to the general public to reduce the numbers before jumping to aerial shootings. I would bet that they would need to have some aerial shootings to reach the population goals, but again just another one of our small public land resources in Texas with minimal big game hunting opportunities not open to us.

They are never going to allow hunting in national parks. It’s just the way it is.

They should never bitch about funding when they could generate massive amounts of income by letting hunters do this job for them.

Hunting is allowed in Grand Teton National Park.

Have to agree with Erny here. You will never see public hunting in any of the National Parks across the country. Elk hunting is the only one allowed in Grand Teton Park, and that is a direct result of the park expansion in 1950, and needing some way to control the population. The Elk Management Reduction Program wording is extremely specific about the issue.

It's obvious they are over funded when they can afford stuff like this.
In addition to Grand Teton, numerous national parks in Alaska, like Gates of the Arctic, allow hunting.

Sorry if I used too broad a brush to paint the picture of no hunting in National Parks, there obviously are some exceptions. ... The ones in Alaska are open to "subsistence hunting only" with strict requirements. Most of the other lands administered by the NPS which allow some form of hunting are not Parks, but are refuges, preserves, recreation areas, or other named categories. I think you would have to look them up individually to see the specific requirement.

They should never bitch about funding when they could generate massive amounts of income by letting hunters do this job for them. How much massive income? Big Bend is a huge area, much of it inaccessible other than by foot, or horseback. They can do what needs to be done from the air in a week. How many hunters are going to pay massive amounts of money to go out there and chase ewes, kids and smaller rams? How long do you think it would take the "general public" to accomplish this task? It's just not feasible to do it any other way.

I agree that hunting alone may not be able to do it but there are plenty of people that would gladly pay to have the opportunity to hunt. With it being the size it is you could allow a good number to participate each year. My point is there is money to be made.

They have been doing this for years. I have witnessed it first hand when they flew "out of the park" and onto our property to shoot Aoudad- accidentally they said. They do it a couple times a year on the state park and just started on the national park. So everyone that has small tracts of land in the Terlingua area along the national park should go hunt about a week after. I bet a lot of critters get pushed over.

Public hunters are too inefficient to use for control purposes. Plus, everyone would be hunting rams instead of ewes, which is what is needed to control numbers. Plus, they're never (for good reason) going to allow aoudad hunts where desert bighorns are in the same area.

Its always whatever is legal. if you let a legal animal walk you will hear the shot.
