As dumb as it is in reality, I fear that will be the case. Too many people get hung up on the "you don't need one" mentality.

Hi-Cap Magazines and AR/AK pistol braces. Buy them while you can. Who said they would never ban bump stocks; and just like that they did!

IF they do, most people on here wont care just like they didn't with bump stocks. They wont care until its something that the majority of them own. But, by then it will be too late as they have set the precedent of banning with mandatory turn in without compensation.

"Red Flag Warning" type of law will be one of the first things that will be pushed for.

Great (scary) stuff gents

when will "they" start pulling all the forms we fill out when buying a gun and see what gun it was? Does ANYONE ever look at the forms we fill out ?

If you dont have an LTC do you have to do a background check?

Check the history of Attorney General Barr about gun control. I seem to remember his past history was an issue with the Gunowners of America when he was going through the confirmation hearings.

Hate to say it but the US is quickly becoming as soft as Europe in a number of ways, but increasingly about guns. I guess its a by-product of poor history, poor education, some bad events that get confounded to be about guns, and whallla...we have gun control.

How do we educate an individual such as the one who did the shooting in El Paso? We have lost the sense of responsibility in our lifestyle. Starting with lack of discipline in the home and school. The people who throw water on police and the antifa people beating others with no fear or concern about being punished for this. Just an example of what is going on in America.

Unless the laws have changed, The FFL Holder keeps the 4470's until he is no longer a FFL holder. When I was in the business, almost 20 years, I had EVERY 4470 for every gun I sold in that 20 years. When I closed the doors I sent the forms to the ATF. I know of more than one FFL holder that had a semi full of forms when he closed but a lot of them were unreadable because of water and rat damage.

20 years are the current regs, then they can be destroyed.

How long are licensees required to maintain ATF Forms 4473?

English | en Español
Licensees shall retain each ATF Form 4473 for a period of not less than 20 years after the date of sale or disposition. Where a licensee has initiated a National Instant Background Check System (NICS) check for a proposed firearms transaction, but the sale, delivery, or transfer of the firearm is not made, the licensee shall record any transaction number on the Form 4473, and retain the Form 4473 for a period of not less than 5 years after the date of the NICS inquiry.

The only time anyone looks at the form 4473 is when the BATFE requests a copy or during a compliance inspection. Other than that they sit in the FFL's storage file. They take up a chit load of space.

Everyone has to have a background check. In Texas if you do NOT have an LTC then the FBI NICS does the background check. The FFL either calls it in or they use an E-Check system. If you have your LTC then that card is the background check and is exempt to the FBI NICS check. The FFL just records your card number on the form 4473.

I only have three guns left, that were bought through an FFL: Two .22lr rifles and a .380 pocket pistol. I prefer simple private party transactions.
Wouldn't mind doing so, but I have never signed a bill of sale or had my information recorded. But then I only deal with gentlemen.

I think Mr. Oxner raises an excellent point.

Nothing about the 2nd Amendment is "absolute", no more than the 1st Amendment is absolute in freedom of speech, there are limits. There seems to be this thought that imposing any 2nd Amendment limit or boundary, leads to it being abolished? How did enforcing a plug for shotguns or the restriction on full-auto ownership impact our 2nd Amendment rights?

The Slide-Fire was built to skirt the law on full-auto possession. It was tolerated until the 1st time some idiot used it for an awful purpose and they're gone. Most gun folks didn't care as it wasn't really useful or practical. Didn't impact anyone's 2nd Amendment right in the least.

The drum magazine falls in the same category, not illegal, but just like LV, some idiot showed how it can be used to cause great harm. It will go and is again, no real loss or impact on anyone's 2nd Amendment right and will help to show we are willing to impose limits.

Unfortunately, some people are easily manipulated, stupid and in some cases just bat-[censored] crazy. As Wilhunt stated...

"We have lost the sense of responsibility in our lifestyle. Starting with lack of discipline in the home and school. The people who throw water on police and the antifa people beating others with no fear or concern about being punished for this."

The tipping point for me has come with the sale of bulletproof backpacks for school kids. As our moral fabric continues to change, new laws/restrictions will be enacted. I think a mag round limit will come (same as plugging a shotgun) as there will be some more idiots to come along with tragic consequences.

I am confident our 2nd Amendment right will be protected and want some changes to help insure it. This concept of give an inch and lose a mile is not logical or proven in history.

Couldn’t disagree more. Liberal states and cities have shown that the 2A is not only under attack but that it is being infringed upon. Chicago has an obscene number of murders despite having ridiculous gun laws. The next step there will be full confiscation, just let a liberal administration come into office and see what happens. There are already politicians calling for gun confiscations that are running for president. The problem with these dumb gun control ideas is they won’t work. When they don’t work then there will be another restriction, then another when that doesn’t work.

Senator John Cornyn Visits North Texas Discussing Potential Laws To Address Mass Shootings

Quote
GRAPEVINE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Following the deadly shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, President Donald Trump and some Republicans, including Texas Senator John Cornyn, say they’re willing to consider red flag laws to keep guns away from people who shouldn’t have them.

Some conservatives say they’re not convinced, something Sen. Cornyn acknowledged. “There is a concern about due process and about abuses, but we’re interested trying to do whatever we can to save more lives.”

In Grapevine Thursday, Senator Cornyn said lawmakers need to also consider making it easier for professionals to share information about potentially dangerous people before they act.

You're still comparing apples and oranges. The plugged shotgun can be unplugged the moment you are not pursuing a game bird with it. There's nothing illegal about owning a shotgun that will hold 15 rounds. There will be something definitely illegal about having a 15 round mag in my AR when they make anything more than 9 illegal.
