I read somewhere a year or two ago that some warthogs got loose on the Chap. Anyone here that has hunted the Chap, did you see any or were any taken on the hunt?

It was big news back in 2015 and 2016, and not just on the Chap. There were quite a few sightings on the WMA but also on the surrounding ranches between Cotulla and Catarina. Not too much since then, but occasional sightings. I think Dan Walker (TPWD Biologist) was studying them when they were there. A friend has a place there, and said they haven't seen any for a year or two.
They do not do well in cold weather, and much below 30 degrees will kill them. If you gets tons of rain, they are actually dumb enough to drown in their burrows. I have shot lots of them in Namibia and South Africa, and they are great sport.

I hunted there in 2017 for a javelina hunt and yes, they had bunches of pics from trail cameras. There was one female killed during my hunt. I did not see any. They have gotten free from nearby high fence ranches that did not plan very well and have actually tunneled in to the Chap! They did not get loose or were released within the WMA. the staff there is quite unhappy about it all and are trying to eliminate them. great sport or not, they do not belong in the Chap.
