My driver aka neighbor is moving into an assessed living apartment in Orlando. It's fully furnished and has a full kitchen. He will have to furnish his own linens. No guns are allowed. There are three restaurants in the building. He has a budget for the restaurants. He plans to walk his furniture after he closes on his house. He'll take a coffee pot, his laptop, cell phone, and a few clothes. You may be faced with the same decision sometime. What else would you take?

My life is intertwined with guns, whether hunting, shooting, reloading or reading. The scenario you outlined would be a nightmare for me and life would simply be existing, not living. I guess I would take my books unless it offended the delicate sensibilities of the owners.

I have told all the kids...they will have to catch me first. Grampy can become one crazy, crafty SOB, if need be.

He's on a walker but still drives. He has relatives in the area. It's a pretty upscale apartment that he in moving into. I'll probably end up in Orlando to be closer to my daughter. I'm now thinking about a senior subdivision. I'm simply not ready to leave my current house. I've already started giving away my guns. I gave two of them to THFers.
You guys aren't thinking like widower. My wife would have had to go directly to a nursing home without me.

I'd take my guns. Other belongings, too, but I'd have to think about which. Some framed pictures would be important.

Bill, I would be glad to take any guns you are giving away.
if my wife passed, I would probably sell everything and buy a 5th wheel and stay in the woods until I passed ...

i I once read a book called Lonesome Dove. Gus was killed by the Indians up in Montana. Captain Call took his body all the way back to Lonesome Dove to bury it. Cathy won't have to do that with my ashes. I plan to bury my wife's ashes with Muffin when she dies. Cathy can dump mine anywhere that is convenient.

I'm glad all these old folks are moving to Florida, just hope they never discover SPI. No guns makes you a target for the thugs that live in that area

If he has any hobbies take them with him, watching TV gets very old al day.
Books and magazines, start subscriptions to the types of magazine he might read.
Deck of cards.
Newspaper.
Walk around phones for his new living places. One by the bed, one by where he will sit and one in the bathroom. Rolodex of phone numbers. A calendar.
Look around where he lives and ask him what is important to him for daily happiness.

I hunted on the ranch overlooking the Rio Grande where that was filmed ... all the movie sets were still in place ... really cool to see in person ... I'd still take any guns you are giving away

I would take my Sherline lathe mill and my Byrnes table saw, and accessories along with a few boxes of wood, brass, aluminum and mild steel. I would make the biggest mess they had ever seen with those 3 toys.
3 years ago I spent a month in a nursing home, it wasn't a bad time, plenty of visitors and the staff was excellent. The food was good and healthy, the nurses and aids were pleasant to deal with. They made sure I made all of my Doctors appointments on time. A friend spend his last days at the Big Spring Veterans Home, he loved it, the place was clean and he said he was treated like royalty.

Back when MickeyMouse first getting ready to open in the early '70's, I spent 4-5 weeks living in the Sheraton on Lee Rd out of every 10 weeks M/F calling on customers in Orange and the surrounding counties and living in JACKSONVILLE of all places. Winter Park was where the better eateries were in those days.and looked like a 30's-'40's era Hollywood movie set. The Weather is BORING. If I'd been able to get the company to allow me to buy the house I wanted in Seminole County for $34,500 and was listed in 1991 at $225K (next County east up I-4) we might still be there as the bidnizz community was exploding. Oh Well I musta Pizzed somebody bigtime 'cause they moved to Chicago in '74 & I was home in Dallas on on nickel by mid '75...and never lived out of Texas again 'cause they fly airplanes anywhere I wanted to go after that. As much as I love to experiment in the kitchen, all my cooking utensils, plus my BGE, if they allowed it. Even nicer if they had an area I could plant a garden. But I'm not attached to my coffee pot! Someday, I hope to pass my guns along to someone that will appreciate them. My son has no interest in owning them. Probably pawn every last one.
coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.
