I'm just hunting deer on my land in East Texas which is mostly mature timber. My longest shot is 140 yards but last year I saw most the action much closer as I set up a pop up blind close to a game game trail in the timber.

Probably go with the same set up. Most likely won't get my suppressor in time for the season so I think I'm going to hunt with my 6.8 SPC Ranch Rifle. I replaced the gas block with an adjustable one made of aluminum and it's shooting much tighter. I may even chop to 16" and thread it after the season once I have my suppressor. It's shooting the factory Hornady 120 SSTs pretty good.

Makes a good little woods rifle with the Weaver tactical 1-5x.

The only pic I have handy. Tikka 6.5x55 Hunter in left hand wearing Talley LW rings and a VX-6 HD 3-18. Last year it took deer from 70-510 yards. It may not shoot long strings accurately but that first shot is a killer. This will be the first time that I recall using the same rifle two seasons in a row.

IF I get to hunt this fall, I'll use my .300 AAC (with a 10-rd mag).

6.5x55 is a great round. I shot 2 deer with the 155 Lapua Mega. Not a great long distance bullet but it expands easy and penetrates like crazy.

This has become my favorite Texas Hill Country rifle. 115gr Speer Gold Dots perform great on WT's!

308? You are nothing but a primitive savage. You might was well be hunting with stick.

Wow, I'd be embarrassed to post a pic of my blued, walnut stocked, M70 in 257 Roberts. I feel like a neanderthal!

Post it. Here is my 257 Roberts with a fixed 6X. Maybe I will use this one instead with 120 Hot Cors for 115 NBTs.

Some really excellent rifles in this thread! I know the synthetic stocks are superior, but I'm glad to see a few like me still like a nice piece of wood under the barrel! up

I love that #1 in 6.8 SPC. Such a good combo for Texas whitetail and hogs at average ranges.

After dragging a 14lb 26" bull-barreled 6.5 Creedmoor around for a couple years, I decided to put my hunting rifle on a diet. I had this rifle last year and have been very happy with the setup so far.

Tikka T3x lite stainless, 7-08, Leupold VX-6HD 3-18x44 illuminated TMOA reticle, Seekins precision rings, Vertical grip, mountain tactical bottom metal. Clean & simple, gets the job done!

I get a good buck, I'll go to the bull pen:

Beautiful rifle, sir. I saw Horizon post some pics of it a while back and that interrupted fluting looks awesome.
