You about summed it up. Some people clean them aka remove the shell before boiling them.

We were down @ SeaRim a few months ago camping. We caught enough for two different meals (as a side dish) with 4 of us eating. We did clean them like Bill Oxner said and my wife boiled them with nothing but water.

I kid you not, they were outstanding. We even had melted butter and I didn't bother using it. We even got meat from the claws.

Fill pot 2/3 with water
Add: Crab Boil, Salt, Onions, Garlic, lemons (you want the water red and salty)
Optional: Potatoes and Corn (fresh)
Bring to a boil (if adding potatoes boil for about 15 mins)
Add Crabs (whole)
Bring to a simmer
Simmer (10 mins)
Turn off fire (add enough ice to lower the temp and stop cooking)
Cover and soak for 30 mins.

If you just boil them they will not soak up any seasoning. Soaking them is the key!

In my opinion it is, however my buddy caught a blue crab on a red with purple flake paddle tail on Sunday, really weird, but I'd stay with the chicken.

We tie a chicken leg to a string. Pull them in but don't take the out of the water (they will let go). When you get them to the surface scoop them up with a net. Took my girls for their first crabbing trip last year and we caught 15 dozen (then a gator moved in and spoiled the party)

With out having a limit on crabs you can throw one heck of a party off the cost of fuel and some chicken necks.

Turkey necks will last longer and require fewer "re-baits".

Steaming them is better - "Chesapeake style".
