One night I had one running a pair of Coyotes in a great wide circle. Several times I got close as they went by, but that dog was fast. It took me over 7 hours to make the intercept. It was the closest I ever came to losing control with a dog while training or hunting, but I knew it was not the hounds fault. Fortunately that one never ran a Coyote again. Deer as you can imagine were a major problem. To break that walker from running deer, I ended up rubbing some nasty deer gland concoction on it's head ever day until it was so sick of the scent it wanted nothing to do with a deer. It worked too.

Deer as you can imagine were a major problem. To break that walker from running deer, I ended up rubbing some nasty deer gland concoction on it's head ever day until it was so sick of the scent it wanted nothing to do with a deer. It worked too. We would hunt around chalk mountain with Jess McCoy. Before he loaded his dogs up he would spray this god awful doe gland concoction in the hounds nose. I ask how is that going to stop them from jumping a deer. He looked and me and asked if I could smell my own crap when when sitting on the crapper? Our dogs never did run any deer so I just it worked?

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

we had to break them the old fashioned way..run them down cut them off kick their arse..no shocking collars back in the 60's and 70's..i really had to do that one time..secret is to start them off with an older "straight dog"

Update in Calli...really proud of her progress....I found a roadkill fawn on side of road..stopped and lopped off front leg at the first joint..bought it home..tied it to my fishing rod and reel..and proceeded to tease Calli..she reacted really funny at first..I would cast it out about 20 feet and she would run after it..but didn't know what to think about the stinky thing..I played with her for about 5munutes putting it away before she lost interest..I would do this every other day..in the third try. I laid a 50 yard straight line drag with a treat on the end if the trail..she did good putting her nose to the ground and making short work..gobbling down the treat..while I praised her..I continued to lay a longer trail..she would hit the ground running and make short work every time..well today I put in a small 90 turn..she hit the trail and got to the 90 and stopped..put her nose in the air. And I be darned winded the leg or treat and ran over and finished off the treat..I was really proud if her..praising her alot..now what I haven't done is let the trail age any..that's on my next training exercise..she will be 3 months old this Friday the 9th

update on calli: shes growing like a weed..she just turned 3 months old and weighs 30 lbs..shes all legs..she looks forward to our daily drag game with two roadkill deer hooves..ill lay a hundred yard drag and she trys really hard.. she will get off trail and i will have to put her back on..she is starting to depend on her nose very good now..she works the track like a grown coon dog..very proud of her..wife is bound and determined to make a "lap"dog out of her..she lives in the house..got her potty trained with using a doggie door..we have a 17 yo corgi mix that really helps out..she is soo good for calli..im afraid calli is going to give molly a herat attack with the way she constantly plays with her. dont know if i should take calli out to the lease with me..i havent gotten her rattlesnake shots yet and with the heat..i think i have decided to keep her home till it gets a little cooler..really plan on doing a lot of work..making two feeder pens and setting up a bow blind and feeder..she would probably just get in the way..i have lots of pix..unfortunately they are on my phone..im having her chipped next week..until next time..God bless everybody..
