I have does and fawns all over the place, but I am not seeing anything with even nubbins. Seems like last year about this time I had plenty of bucks with the beginnings of antlers. Or maybe I just am in too big a hurry.

They disappear around our place in the summer too. I just saw 3 bucks on sunday for the first time in months.

Rain, high heat and mast crops starting in my area. Lot of persimmons on my place now and rains 14 days ago have the deer not making nightly visits to feeders(protein or corn). They are now showing up about every 3 days or so. Even seeing a few small acorns on the live oaks. Still seeing mainly green persimmons but as many little trees as I have I know they are plenty ripe enough to eat for them. All the green is making those bucks move mainly at night right now. To hot to move in the daylight hours when they are not needing to hustle to get enough to eat. If they do need to get up and feed during the heat of the day, they can take a few steps to get all they want. Maybe not even leave the shade or be to far from it.

Great summary of what happens during the heat of summer - conserve energy - eat what you can when the temperature is at its best (night) - our protein and cottonseed intake will drop from here forward - water becomes important so they will bed near it so they do not have to travel far for it - bucks will hang together while does and fawns just try to survive - we are going this weekend to put our cameras out - we have some bucks that I cannot wait to catch on camera - should be some studs

In years of less but timely rainfall you can see the large drops in feed consumption when the bean/tuna crops starts. Even in the wet years with feed consumption already being lower, the lower consumption still drops off even more when those seed/mast crops start. Those keeping good yearly feed records can show you when it happens and how much the feed consumption drops off or starts to rise by week.

I have the bucks but don't have the does, just a couple does around. That bothers me, I want the does so the bucks will come when it is time. My first fall living here so we will see how late season plays out. Rumor has it that there are 160 class bucks around but I haven't seen anything great as of yet...still growing though!

They are around. Maybe not where you are right now but they will show up. Bucks are all buddies right now and staying together. Come Sept. they will start splitting up and staking out their territories.

Just put our cameras out last weekend. We are VERY dry in NE Webb County. We're getting pics of bucks daily now. But all at night. Mostly around midnight-2am at protein feeders. We're not feeding corn, yet.

Was down at Choke Canyon last weekend doing some fishing. The oak trees in the park were so loaded up with acorns Im worried they are going to look like peach/pecan trees with branches hanging to the ground before they drop.

I've seen one small buck, along with bunches of does. The game cam tells a different story

Maybe I should put the cameras back out. Feeders are loaded and working. I actually forgot about the cameras.

Yep, they are handy tools. In the concho valley the bucks will start rubbing trees first of dove season.

It's the same thing here. Haven't seen one buck on camera yet. Plenty of does and only does going to the protein and corn feeders. It was this way last year. Too much of their own natural foods to eat is my guess. Last year I started seeing them in mid Sept. Guess it will be the same this year!
Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

all the residential neighborhoods are covered up with bucks around Georgetown and Lake LBJ ... during the heat of the day most are laying in groups in the shade from what I have seen.

Since the rains about 20 days ago they have stopped coming to feeders everyday or night in the last 10 days now. Some persimmons and other beans from brush are ripe now. Most the scat on the roads now is full of beans and black in color. I have seen this happen now for 4 yrs in a row now with June rains and mast crops. All deer seem to disappear from TC. I was seeing most of the bucks at least once per night and now it is 2 to 6 days between TC pics of the same bucks.
