The standard twist when itwas introduced was 1 - 9.25, now most are 1 -9 but a little daster at 8.7 would not hurt if you are wanting to run the latest or next round of very high BC bullets

a grandson is thinking 7mm-08, so I told him to wait and see if we can find the 1-8 or 1-9, found the 1-9.7 or something??, if he can afford, I am thinking 1-8 in the 7mm-08AI.

any mfg offering a 1-8, I would have him buy that if we can find, if custom I would vote for AI 1-8

You don't need a 1:8. 162 gr, and 7mm-08 are peanut butter and jelly. Any heavier, and I think you scarifice too much velocity. Any lighter and you sacrifice BC (I care about) and bullet weight for energy deliver and wind cheating. A 1:9 stabilizes a 162 gr perfectly.
