Maddie Ross is a insufferable character.

If I was that horse trader I would have shot the horse in front of her.

She makes the movie almost impossible to watch

Not sure the movie is as good as it is if she’s not insufferable....but Strother Martin was greatness as Stonehill.

The original, of course....never cruised through the re-make.

I aim to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. What'll it be?

Read the book twice. Loved both movies.

Never been a big John Wayne fan. Don't dislike him though.

Baby sister, I was born game and I intend to go out that way.

Damn you, Bo. First time you ever give me reason to... cuss you.

Mattie Ross: Do you know a Marshal Rooster Cogburn?
Col. G. Stonehill: Most people around here have heard of Rooster Cogburn and some people live to regret it. I would not be surprised to learn that he's a relative of yours.

Col. G. Stonehill: I will pay a total of two hundred dollars to your father's estate when I have in my hand a letter absolving me of all liability from the beginning of the world to date!

LaBoeuf: You're lucky to be where water's so handy. I've seen the time I've drank out of a filthy hoofprint - and was glad to get it.
Rooster Cogburn: If ever I meet one of you Texas waddies who ain't drunk water from a hoofprint, I think I'll... I'll shake their hand or buy 'em a Daniel Webster cigar.

Hannie Caulder was my favorite movie he was in.

But that's only because he was in it. Still would have been great even if they casted Mickey Mouse

I'm a big Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon fan so I kinda prefer the remake myself. BTW the reason Maddie told Frank James "keep your seat trash" at the end of the remake was because James was a traitor/double spy during the Civil War.

Her character was supposed to be obnoxious and irritating and she pulled it off with ease (Kim Darby in the original/real one).

John Wayne won the only Oscar of his career for True Grit. They say the only reason he won it was he was dying of cancer at the time. Won it for that and not the Shootist? SMDH
