An article in the food section of the morning paper called brisket the new caviar of beef. I prefer pulled pork over brisket.

I remember selling briskets for .69 cents per pound back in the mid 80`s and in the early 90`s we sold them for .99 cents per pound all of the time. I used to say that it wasn`t hard to sell dollar bills for 50 cents. We weren`t making money …… We were making friends.

I sold tons and tons of pork butts during my 31 years in the grocery business but it was not until I changed careers that I actually smoked a pork butt for pulled pork. Mostly because briskets had gotten over priced from what I was used to paying for them and Food Network educated everyone about what other parts of the country was cooking/smoking. Smoking a pork butt is way more forgiving than a brisket any day.

I grew up in Arkansas. I had never heard of barbecued brisket until I moved to Texas.

I do believe Tman fed me my first pulled pork. I was sold on it before I tasted it. The aroma had me by the nose.

Yep, especially when you just drown the pork in bbq sauce anyway.

Same here, but Tennessee. Really like brisket, but hickory smoked pork and southern coleslaw is hard to beat.

Same here. Don't get me wrong, I love a good smoked brisket, but a good pulled pork can beat it every time.

I prefer a brisket over pulled pork, here is how I look at pulled pork: It's a piece of meat you over cook until it falls apart and then you cover it in sauce. Whereas with the brisket there is a magic window you are trying to land it between being tough to over cooked(falling apart such as pulled pork).

I am also a sauce only if its dry and flavorless. I am not against pulled pork it just ranks below brisket. Both cuts are versatile on what you can do with them after being smoked,

agree ... I usually get tired of the pork before it's all gone but never with brisket when done properly.

Couple I did last week. They are way different than brisket. Personally I like them a day or more later. Just heat up enough for sandwich, pizza, nachos, salad, etc in the microwave. Usually too full of beer the day of to enjoy anyway. I froze one of these for the lease. [Linked Image]
