Probably a stupid question(s) but I am wondering how exactly the hunts that are for "1-4 people per application" work. I've been hunting in Texas since i learned to walk but have not applied to a single draw hunt since I was a youth hunter so I'm a bit rusty on the process.

To avoid drawing attention to any single hunt and upsetting someone, I chose the Powderhorn WMA hunt as an example since it is one of the most popular ones.

If i submit an application with me and my 2 buddies (3 total) does that go in as a single application in the drawing or would it count as 3 applications? Lets say 1,000 people apply, would the groups chances of being drawn be 1/1000 or 3/1000?

If it does go in as a single application, then can buddy 1 also submit an application with myself and buddy 2 (and buddy 2 submit an app with myself and buddy 1)?

If i submit an application for just myself on a 1-4 person hunt and get drawn, am i the only person allowed to go on the hunt or do you then get to pick an additional group to accompany me on the hunt?

Does each person in the group get a tag? The example above states that it is a compartment hunt with 12 permits available, limit 1 axis deer. I'm assuming if the group is drawn, the whole group will share a single compartment. But, would the 3 person group be limited to 1 Axis deer or would the limit be 3? I'm not really worried about this part so much because my buddies and myself are all just as happy to watch the other take the shot, but we enjoy each others company during the hunt.

Hopefully reading all my dumb questions didn't give anyone a headache. Just trying to maximize the potential of one of us drawing a tag and being able to share the experience with each other. Thanks.

I'm fairly new as well but the way it was described to me is that when you apply as a group, say 4 people altogether, then that is 4 permits issued out of the 12.

Let's say there are 3 different dates available for that hunt. If the first hunt has already picked 9 permits and then your group is picked (which has 4 people in it) the system will not pick you because your group exceeds the allowable number of permits to be issued. I am also assuming that your group would get bumped to the next available hunt date but I am not 100% certain of that.

Only the people that applied get a permit. If only you applied then only you get a permit.

To answer your question, it is my understanding that if you are a group of 4 with no loyalty points you go in the hopper four times.

I believe you go in as a group and if you have loyalty points, they are averaged and the average number is what goes into the draw. As far as the hunt permit, each permitted hunter is allotted the bag limit. So your party of three could kill 3 sambar and 3 axis. I do not believe the drawing will allow you to place your name on more than one application for the same hunt category location.

That is incorrect. Points are averaged. 4 party members with 1 point each = 4 total points ÷ by 4 party members = 1 point "in the hopper" for the party application.
