Now that I have retired; I have time to start reloading again. While going thru my collection of brass, bullets etc I came across several packages of rifle primers ...wondering if it’s worth using them

Yep definitely...
I have used some pretty old primers.

I have used primers that were4 stored in their original containers in the last 3 years that were marked 50 cents for the price. In 1976 when I started reloading they were a buck a hundred. Not sure how old those primers were but all went bang and shot some good groupd

I've got powder that has to 40 years old.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
