Any of you fellow old farts dealing with it? I'm headed to the doc tomorrow and suspect that's what he's going to find. I understand 50% of 60-year-old men deal with it and the number jumps to 80% later in life. My dad dealt with it so I'm sure I will too. The feeling of needing to finish peeing won't go away.
Just hope it can be remedied with medication without the need for surgery.

I was put on Flomax for awhile by my urologist. It made me dizzy. I gave it up and cut back on my alcohol. No problems in over 10 years.

I deal with it, Flomax, Proscar and Cialis daily, are some of the drug therapies. I was on Flomax until it started giving me insomnia and then got switched to a combination of Proscar and Cialis.

Mine was huge, had sonogram and biopsy, no cancer. Symptoms were driving me crazy
Chose the Green Light Laser procedure, you can google it. Laser vaporizes the prostate tissue away from the urethra, catheter for a few days. it does work. I had a episode where it bled again with pretty severe bladder spasms. I had to go back in for a cystoscopy with Fulgeration, google it.
Still bleed and pass a clot every now and then, Urologist says its part of the healing process.
There is another procedure type of clips to hold the prostate away from the urethra but my prostate was too big for it.
If you are done chasing girls, you can have it removed and be a steer
I buy Viagra but its expensive as a MF. I'm looking at the shot in your wiener makes you like a flagpole but also expensive.

I'm 59, started having a weak stream earlier this year. Primary Dr put me on Flomax, I hated it and it didn't work for me. Dr recommended going to urologist, I said Id rather not at this time, Now on Proscar, not great but better. Its not the worst thing sitting to pee! I know my time is limited before more extreme measures.

all GP's turn us over to specialists when we get older. really all the GP can do is check your PSA, when it gets to 4 or so, off you go to a Urologist. take your time Jimbo , prostate cancer kills you slow

Good report. Prostate is normal. Just an infection, probably from poor diet (Type 2 Diabetic). Need to listen more to my daughter (Nurse) and stop being a diabetic in denial.

I know you do not want to hear it, but losing weight is the only way out of diabetes. I did it to live, losing my diabetes was a nice bonus. Doc now tells me I am no longer a diabetic, I correct him by saying I am a still a diabetic, just without the symptoms. He says that is a good attitude to have.

It has become my primary focus at this point with the mindset that it must be done or else. Pain and suffering can be very strong motivators.

I can contribute to both of these topics... If I go to the GP at 220 or above, I'm about to be put on Insulin. If I go in at say 210-212, I'm good. My sugar variance is that tight. I went to the Urologist on Monday and had a visit with this guy, I'm sure some of you have met him as well... if not, you're time is coming! I was told my Prostate was exceptional, as in it's size. Double a young man's size, but bigger still than most 56 year olds. Don't have to take anything, as long as I go before I go to sleep, there's no waking up until I'm ready. I do take two supplements he suggested some time back that do seem to help. Theralogix Prostate 2.0 and Prostate SR, just 1 each a day. I also do a Testosterone booster I guess it is called Clomiphene. Primary use is for fertility, as it boosts your own natural Testosterone production vs an additive. Raise mine almost 200 pts to mid 550's now. PSA is 3.5 on this stuff. Getting old is starting to get old... Charlie

Charlie, talk to me about the Testosterone, does it keep you awake at night? I guess you like the effects?

Something some of you will not want to hear but I've had TWO roto rooter jobs and neither was fun. For most men it's just a matter of time My main problem both times was every time I got up from sitting I HAD TO HEAD TO THE BATHROOM AND I MEAN THEN!!!

Charlie, talk to me about the Testosterone, does it keep you awake at night? I guess you like the effects? Given my T level was low and what I've heard and read (some here) on the difference folks felt with a T supplement/additive (what's the right word?), I asked my GP. He wanted to stay away from it and asked me to discuss with my Urologist, as he believes the whole "Low T" thing is largely a money grab from a commercial perspective, though acknowledged as a real physical issue, it's unnecessarily amplified by industry for the $. The Urologist suggested the Clomiphene as a way to boost my natural production vs raising via a supplement. After 6 months or so, I don't have nor have I felt that general "never felt better" feeling some guys report when taking a T supplement. I do notice a difference generally in stamina/motivation/attiude/etc., just not a "buzz". It doesn't interrupt my sleep as I'm a person who can drink 2 cups of coffee and fall right asleep. Also, given it's really my own T, one would assume if I had no issue sleeping with a T level of 550 5-10 years ago, why would I now? Not to repeat, but I think the difference is I've raised my own T production, not raising it via adding something different and hence maybe the amplified effects of the supplement/additive/synthetic. YMMV Charlie

Had the roto rooter once. Got infections. Need to have it again but keep putting it off.

Had the roto rooter once. Got infections. Need to have it again but keep putting it off. when you say roto rooter, what is that? cystocopy with a "clean out tool" attached to the end of the scope. had my prostate taken with emergency surgery back in april of 06, bladder was 8 times normal size and I had not pee'd in 3 days, not even a drip. turned out to be cancer. have had over 15 cystocopies since, some for video of my bladder (where the cancer moved to) and some to remove polyps/biopsies, sucks every time! have to have another in oct or nov. Cystoscopy (sis-TOS-kuh-pee) is a procedure that allows your doctor to examine the lining of your bladder and the tube that carries urine out of your body (urethra). A hollow tube (cystoscope) equipped with a lens is inserted into your urethra and slowly advanced into your bladder. if you have the option of drugs for a first attempt to get it under control I highly recommend it, the surgery sucks, although I had what is called da-vinci type where a computer links the doc to little arms and he manipulates them with his fingers (pretty cool stuff, if not having it). after there is a catheter inserted thru the abdomen into the bladder and a bag on your leg, wore mine for 2 months. then you get to cath for another 1-3 months while you finish healing. when they removed the abdomen cath there were no stitches or staples, they just pull it and leave it alone to heal. didn't help my situation that I was an over the road truck driver, sittin 12 hrs. a day takes a toll.

Back from the Urologist today. Meds aren't relieving symptoms. Discussed the Urolift procedure (implants). Minimally invasive, done in the office, 50-60 % long term effectiveness. I go back in 3 weeks to be tested and I'll decide what I want to do.

I'm allergic to nickel so it's not an option for me.

Just got back from the Urologist. Tried doing the Cystoscopy to measure for the Urolift implant. Only got about half away in and I couldn't take it any more. Was screaming and bucking. Doc said he couldn't do the Urolift because I was too sensitive to the snake. Said it happens sometimes. Only other remedy is prostate surgery. Discussed losing weight as it might help my symptoms. We decided to take a month to decide. Yea. getting older sucks!
