Here's the scenario: I recently got my suppressor and I'm looking at rebarreling one of my short action rifles, or just cutting down a barrel I already have. I have 2 308s (20" Tikka factory CTR barrel and 22" Rem Sendero factory barrel), 2 6.5 Creeds, (20" Rem 700 with Bartlein barrel and 16.5 TC Encore with MGM barrel) , 22" 243 factory Tikka Lite barrel, and a 26" 223 AI Rem with Bartlein barrel.
I already have brass, dies, powders, and brass trimmers for every caliber I have now. That's not a deal-breaker, but it would be nice to use what I have in stock.
For the ultimate suppressed whitetail rig, should I cut down one of the barrels I already own, rebarrel to a new caliber, or just screw it on and send it?
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Thread the Encore barrel. I've got that setup in a 7-08AI, it's so much fun to hunt with.

Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Interesting thread. I'm still waiting for my first suppressor to arrive. I'm thinking about chopping my 308 CTR down to 16"-18". I may just go 17" like Jason.

I laugh all the time at that little gun...it's so tiny it feels illegal, clearly it isn't but dang it's a fun gun to hunt with.

First question is: What suppressor did you get? The reason that I ask is that if you got a good lightweight one, then going with a 20" barrel isn't that big of a deal. I run a Harvester on a 24" 280 barrel for my Encore and other than having to be a bit more careful when putting it out a window in the blind, it is still pretty handy. For a heavier can, I would go a bit shorter. I run my SpecWar on a 17" 308 barrel for my other Encore and on my 11.5" AR SBRs. I think the real answer to your question is to thread every barrel that you have that will accept 5/8"-24 threads and run that can on all of them (and buy a couple more cans). The SpecWar on the .308

If you don't shoot subsonic ammunition, I suggest just thread whatever you have and go with it. It's still going to be somewhat loud for the most part. If you build a true subsonic rig, Lehigh bullets are hard to beat in a 300 Blackout.
