My son is FINALLY graduating from A&M next month (Gig Em). Took him a little longer then we (I) planned, partially because he spent an entire semester at FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) getting his Law Enforcement Certificate. He is graduating from the "Pro Ranger" program that is a partnership with A&M and the National Parks Service and upon graduating he will be starting as a LEO for the National Parks. Yes, super proud of this kid....and a little jealous!! He will be "Smokey the Bear....with a badge!"

He is responsible for outfitting his own gear (sidearm, duty belt, handcuffs, etc.) and I have told him I would buy his duty sidearm for him as a graduation gift. At the academy, they used Sig 226 and he fell in love with it. Park Service allows their LEO's to choose their sidearm, and that is what he has decided on.

So my question is two fold..... 1) is there anywhere that will give me a discount on Sig Sauer for him being LEO? and 2) Is there anything specific we need to make sure he gets? or...stays clear of?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

TC

I have used Bud's Gun shop at least 5 times over the years and had it shipped to different ffl's. Never had a single problem and all went like clockwork. It just takes them a little time to get it shipped because they don't carry the whole inventory.

I see your North of DFW like me, try Past & Blast in Whitesboro, TX they have moved across the street in downtown Whitesboro and have a very nice store, good people and fair prices. I'm sure they will work with you on the LEO discounts.

Sig has a blue label program called the Armed Professional Program. Just go to their site.

Until he is commissioned, has the badge and ID card, he won’t be able to purchase through one of the LEO programs.

As far as what to outfit it with, get him a Streamlight TLR-HL, and a Safariland triple retention holster. I would choose 9mm, but that may be up to the department he works for. Night sights aren’t necessary, unless he has bad eyesight at night.

I’ve been carrying a P226 for 13 years, it’s seen over 30,000 rounds of 357sig and is a fantastic weapon.

As long as he has a letter from a dept or school he should be able to use the discount. Ya might hit gtdist, I know when I was in academy this worked.
I like the sig 226 mine is in 9mm but I would not carry it as my duty weapon unless I had to, heavy on the hips, gonna be different than being in class all day, I'll stick with my g19.

Agree on the light.
I use als holster dual retention I don't like the hood, but as a rookie yep go with triple retention

Get quality gear, like everything else buy once cry once. It won't happen and gear will be upgraded, replaced, lost. Recommend dual handcuff case up front vs 2 single cuff cases at rear, more comfortable

Get quality flashlights too already covered weapon light but don't forget small and large handhelds too.

Congrats on your son graduating! I have (2) going to Blinn hoping to move to the big campus...

The 226 is an excellent pistol as has been said. While I don't think they're sold new anymore, you can also find some NOS and used what Sig called Xchange kits which provide a new slide assembly and magazines for different calibers. I bought a 9mm pistol, then bought the 22LR and .40 cal Xchange kits. They make a 357 also.

Congrats on your son's graduation. Both of my son's grew up on P226. I've had them in 9mm, 40, and 357Sig. They just love those guns.

However, my eldest son is a San Diego Deputy and he went through his academy with a Glock 23. They didn't get to choose. He says he won't switch back and his EDC is a G19.

By all means get your son what he wants and will be comfortable with. I just thought it was interesting how my kid turned full convert.

The local police distributor here in MN, just requires a letter from the department, for new hires to get the LEO discount.

Just 2 on me and they are hinged, nothing like gaining control when you twist on the hinge. There is also 2 in the patrol bag along with 4 flexies.
