friend gave me his condo for a week in late August. Guides want $400-$550 for 4-5 hour bay/Jetty trips. Think I'l take my own tackle and fish off the piers. The Galveston Pier and 61st St. Pier seem like the best options. Remember, I'm 67 and cant go scrambling around the jetties.

Just want to catch something, not targeting any specific fish. I'll bottom fish dead bait, throw a popping cork with live shrimp. Will probably end up renting a heavy rig and go for small sharks, Gaftop or maybe a Bull Red.

We are beachfront so I will screw around in the surf if its calm.

I went on the TFF, meh.

knew I would get some good info and suggestions here.

Pier fishing has always been pretty miss for me. I'd hit the surf though with bait and soft plastic.

Depends on trout green water to the beach and incoming tides. I've caught a few specks off the rock groins. The lighted piers are better at night.

Check out TheFluke215 on TFF. He does some guided surf fishing for reds and sharks at a reasonable price.
I think he does these on the Bolivar Peninsula. So, not too far from you.

The guide cost is for two-three people , she wants to go but has never fished. I bought her a throw away Shakespeare spin-cast combo, so she can jerk piggy perch, then drop it in the Gulf, I'll only be out $40.

I am having second thoughts about taking my new rig to the salt, may get a cheapie myself, just leave it there

Just dip it in the hotel's pool after the outing.

I believe you can fish Seawolf park, on the backside of Galveston Island...if the surf is not fishable.

Hit the easy button and get a guide, it'll be more fun and less headache.

Yes you can fish there and at times it can be good. Plenty of space to keep your distance too.

The Texas City dike has good fishing I am told, sharks, bull reds all the way down to pan fish. I think weekends are 5.00. Through the week is free. 5.00 is for each vehicle. not each person.

I've had a ton of fun fishing off piers in the gulf. Never knew what we were going catch but always caught fish.

I found dead squid to be the best bait because it was much easier to keep on the hook.

We caught, sharks, speckled trout, reds, hard head, gafftop, piggy perch, rays and a variety of other weird fish.

just what i'm looking for. have one of these in my "cart" on Amazon. It would work on the pier and the surf, kind of a throw away rig. Dont want to take my bass gear $$$, to the salt, well maybe one OLD Curado.

Also a place to go is to go down to the San Luis Pass bridge, fish on the Galveston Island side west of the bridge when the tide is rolling in. Stand right there on the beach and have no worries, when I was fishing down that area last month a ton of people where out there doing that.

This catch came from that area.
