Howdy folks,
I know there are plenty of requests on here of people in search of a deer lease who are respectable citizens. That said, I’d like to say I’m more than that and looking for more than that.
I’m a management minded hunter who’s actually experienced and seen the effectiveness of good management practices such as keeping good buck to doe ratios, culling off bad genetics, filling the feeders, regularly supplementing protein into diets, and harvesting mature bucks. Yet that experience to me is just work if you don’t have people who share similar passion and excitement for it. Not to mention, just fun atmosphere of people who never knew a stranger and are always having fun regardless of the harvest.
I’m ok not hunting some thing over 2000 acres right now but just would like to find a decent place below $2500. Does that even exist anymore? Looks like every lease on here is at least $3k. Not complaining, just trying to see if it costs that much to share good stories by the campfire under the big ol’ Texas sky.

Most folks I know and me included pay quite a bit less than that but no one gets off knowing how hard it would be to find something better that wasn't $4K and further out. You really need to know someone that could get you on if someone bails. We haven't had an opening in 6 years. Same with neighbors.

It’s not just the initial “buy in” of $2,500 to get on a lease. How much are you willing to spend over the course of a year on feed & up keep to have a good lease? Be prepared to spend another $1k or more on feed. & that’s not counting gas back & forth, or any of the dozens of small items you will need.
Also, it’s helpful if you put the area of the state your looking for. Lease managers see a post like this & have no friggin clue if you mean south TX, east TX or where, & they ain’t goin an chase you down just to ask basic questions.
It doesn’t cost much to sit around a campfire, as you suggest. The cost comes with everything it takes to have a nice lease.

I would think that the more you pay the more deer the property has. I would imagine there are plenty of places that are less than $2500 but the chances of seeing deer are not very good. I realize I have a HF but I really don't manage for deer, but I remember a gentleman who came to hunt here years ago tell me. I saw more bucks today than I have seen in the last 2 years on the lease I have in N.E. Texas. It all depends on what you really want. Do you want deer or do you want to sit around the camp fire and BS.

There are about a half dozen leases advertised here at, around & below $2500, you'll have to put some effort into finding what you want. Hunting leases aren't going to come find you.

Very good comments by Maximus and the others as well. Lots of little advise I could add but ill just say to look on leasehunter.com. Usually a lot of guys will chime in on a thread like this with comments about hard to find a good lease and gotta put in time with boots on the ground at feed stores and cafes etc. Good luck. You are kinda looking late also but stuff still comes open late.

At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR Keep your gratitude higher than your expectations. RWH

Looking anywhere northwest, west, or southwest of DFW.
Regarding those doubting my efforts, I have been looking with friends for 6+ months and have only managed 1-2 legitimate leads; however, that’s not really my intent. My intent was to communicate that I’m not some average Joe that’s gonna shoot up the place and that I actually enjoy good management. If the market is really a $4k starting point for a decent lease, I might as well just throw in the extra thousand and go on elk hunts every other year with an outfitter.
My hope is that people would see this appeal as someone who is a respectful hunter looking to be a part of a fun group on a deer lease and great add for that “last spot”.
Also, for what it’s worth, there seems to be a pricing disparity as 300 acre leases are going for like $1500 and 3000 acre leases are going for like $4000 which doesn’t really make much sense.
If you have a lead, feel free to PM me.
