Just bumped a small covey driving down a lease road about 15 miles east of Toledo Bend just north of Zwolle, LA.

Looked like an adult pair with 6-7 juveniles....been seeing tons of doves but was shocked to see quail in essentially a large managed timber farm...

Anyone else aware of quail near Toledo Bend...either side of the reservoir?

I heard a bobwhite calling a couple mornings ago at my hog hunting place in Panola County. That would be just NW of TB. No idea if it was wild or turned loose by a neighbor. We saw our first ever Eastern Turkey there this year, so anything is possible I guess.

Funny you should say that, I saw two turkey hens about 5 miles south of I-49 and LA3132 south of Shreveport last week....didn’t know they were around either loco

Pointed a few coveys when I lived in New Orleans, but very few.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

That’s much more open country and way south of here...a heavy wooded pine tree farm wasn’t a place I would have thought of seeing them...

There are always a few birds in the pines, but for all purposes, they are not huntable with dogs. Kisatchie is burning a lot of ground and that is helping numbers some, but nothing like Texas. If you find a covey or 2 a day, you have had a really good day quail hunting in Louisiana. Woodcock are the upland game in Louisiana.

I spent many a day chasing birddogs up in the Red River Bottoms of NW La. as a youth in the 60’s.
All of the sudden, the memories come flooding back. We had plenty of birds back then. Great times!
