The barreled action came back home! This is the kind of work that Randy does. Can you see it? It has been pretty well blueprinted I guess you could call it. The fit of barrel to receiver is now perfect. The bolt has been checked, adjusted and cleaned, it matches up perfectly to the chamber. The receiver has been slicked up and stoned. And finally, the barrel forward of the stock has been tapered to take off weight and improve stability and the muzzle threaded for a Sparrow and he made a matching thread protector. You have to look close to see that. Again, very good work.

Now it is my turn. Pay attention. This is what a proper 10/22 receiver build looks like. There are no loose pins rattling around and falling out of my receivers. The Kidd salsa trigger is locked in place with captive pins. Countersunk screws hold it all together with zero play. Nice and snug. That is a 20MOA pic rail mounted on top. You can not see it but it is a perfect fit. No daylight between the pic rail and the receiver top. That is important to note as many 10/22 receivers will have a ‘pour bump’ where the mold was filled, right there on top just forward of the front screws, under the new rail. That secret little bump has driven more than one rf shooter over the edge. Watch for it. The buffer pin is Kidd too. It is a steel pin inside of a neoprene sleeve. The sleeve fits tightly in the receiver. It will not fall out and you will not hear the CLACK of steel bolt striking steel pin each time the action cycles. And another peek at the master’s touch.

What is the white at the bolt? Shipping pad to keep bolt from hammering during shipping. It is a bouncy type of styrofoam worm.

Bout a thousand text messages between Cast and myself over the last month. I'm gonna show him how to get that thing to hit way farther than a .22lr should. But, I think it is safe to declare Cast the official THF 10/22 expert, after all the data pertaining to them the he shared with me.

Ok, the gun is back in the stock. Notice the shiny action screw. That screw is titanium, it will not stretch when tightened or when the gun bucks at it. The brass escutcheon is factory but it is epoxied in place. Directly above it is the pillar, which the action rests on. The action screw rests on the other end. Therefore, I can tighten that sucker right up, way past factory torque. And I do. The action is locked in the stock. You do have to have a well fitting stock to lock them down this way. And a long shot just to show it off a little.

Sweet looking 10/22 Cast. Looking forward to a range report along with what ammo it likes best. It is an old rifle. We know each other well. It gets Wolf exclusively but it likes CCI Green Tag, CCI SV, Eley Tenex and right on up the expensive ammo ladder. That is why I chose my old friend for this project. That is my first 10/22, bought ten years ago. I retired it once I got the hang of building lightweight carbines that shot almost as well or equally to this one.

I do wonder, how does removing steel from the barrel make it more stable?

I need to adjust the scope to my eye and run a bore snake through the barrel. Then figure out the basics of the scope and go to NTSA to test and if all goes as expected, zero it and season it.
I just hope for a cool windless day.

Yep. It is a clean barrel. It will be squirrelly until several rounds of MT pass through it. The wax lube on the bullets season the barrel. 100 rounds should do it. You will notice it begin to tighten during the process.
