When I get time I like to practice up on my photography skills a bit with some bird photos. Here are a few photos from the past month or so.

up I got all excited when I saw a Painted Bunting out at the new place earlier this week. There are Scarlet Tanagers (I think) hanging around the house. His head looks like Bozo the Clown. 'Wish I had your photography skills.

What is the little blue bird with the yellow patch on his back and yellow throat?

Nice pics! Love those painted buntings.

Thanks. Painted Buntings are my favorite bird to photograph but this year I hear way more than I am seeing. I have never seen a Scarlet Tanager on my place but they are seen in this area at times. I have seen Summer Tanager this year and Vermillion Flycatchers also, both are red and colorful. That bird you asked about is a Northern Parula, first time I have seen one here on my place. Seen them twice now and very small bird.

I saw a painted bunting on my last trip and I believe that is the first time to see one.

Thanks - the painted bunting was my MIL's favorite and reminds me of her!

Those green jays are so cool. I wish we had them up here. I did see several painted buntings this year, which is uncommon for Hunt county. I also saw over a dozen bald eagles, which is the most I've ever seen in a year. Great pics as always, STX. cheers

Those pics were taken from 15' out to about 60'. The closest that lens will only focus is starting at about 15'. Most are taken from about 25' out to 35'.
Thanks everyone.

Watched a pair of scarlet tanagers destroy a large nest of yellowjackets several years ago at my BIL's place in northern Arkansas...beautiful bird and amazing to watch....once they killed and ate all the adult wasps they knocked down the nest and are all the larva....

Greatness.

Nice shots! What is that one 4th down from the top? I've seen those but more plain looking around here.

Thanks. That is a Long-billed Thrasher. We have the Brown and Curve-billed Thrashers here in this area also, but see more of the Long-billed.
