Just curious what everyones opinion is, but for my 30th I wanted to schedule a hunt for a few days. Just got into hunting around the same time last year, if mid december is too late in the season or does it depend on the weather we get. Not looking to go trophy hunting either, wouldnt mind a doe. Most likely it will be my first deer. Anyone have any input if thats an ok time with my expectations, hopefully it isnt too late to book something or start looking.

It really depends on what you're hunting for and your expectation as you said. IMHO, you can shoot a doe most any time of the season as there's generally plenty of targets given your choice is usually "big" or "big enough" vs Bucks with age, points, how low his balls hang and all the other factors some folks worry about. Bucks tend to get pretty wary, fairly soon after the season gets into swing. I just shot my first last season, shot him opening weekend, 8pt and couldn't have been happier. Now there was a 10pt hanging around, I could've waited to see if he was going to make an appearance, but I did that the previous 3-4 years and finished the season with alot of time invested, but no deer. smile

I'd start looking around and getting a place and what you want to shoot lined up fairly soon. I'd also say pick November, so you have December if it doesn't work out.

Good luck!

Look in the outfitters section and schedule with them now. They will have lots of options that will fit your goals and budget. Congrats on your upcoming 30th.

We took some of our best bucks in early to mid December as that is when our deer are rutting. It is also a cooler time of year so you will see a lot of action whether
it be a meat hunt, cull or trophy. Like above mentioned there are lots of good deals in the outfitters section so just keep an eye out for what you are looking for.

I don't even get serious about hunting until Thanksgiving, and looking back I've killed my biggest bucks between Christmas and New Year's. This is on my own place, though, and most of the guys I let hunt have tagged out or are more into football by then, so I have the place to myself.
