UT has fought for nearly 20 years to preserve affirmative action in admissions. Which is also terribly unfair to a kid.
I promise you, minorities have the abilities to be valedictorians and get full rides to MIT.with hard work. Even with poor and sorry parents.

Once again you when did this turn to race? Don't forget there's one way to guarantee your acceptance into UT regardless of race, just be top 7% of your class.
That being said I'm not a big fan of affirmative action. I understand the reasoning behind it though, and at some point it has to end.
I like that UT based it on income, because they're poor people of all colors that could use help. Being poor and white has to be the worst though. My son's buddy that he's known since 4th grade falls under that category. He has expressed his frustration to me on being the forgotten. He doesn't have a dad, and his mom isn't a great influence. Yet he got into UT engineering on his own with little to no family support. He is like a second son to me. We would help him out whenever we could. I appreciate his hustle and hard work. So when graduation came around, and he said he wasn't gonna get a class ring because it was to expensive. I told oh hell no you deserve it, order it and we would pay for it.
So if UT wants to help people that deserve it, but can't afford it then I'm all for it. That kid would of qualified for the free tuition.

the sad thing is, there are going to be a lot of people who try and rig the system. Employees of UT/Austin? Finding a way to hide income so their kids go to school free. Kind of like hiding income so you don't have to pay taxes

Cathy got a national merit scholarship which paid her tuition to Baylor. My wife and I were not embarrassed end to accept the scholarship.
