I'm sure there are those of you who would agree that you find a new set of priorities after you retire from day-to-day work. You might say retirement gives you a chance to clear your head and begin to see things differently. What was very important to you before, doesn't seem so anymore while other things you kept in the background before now become a priority.

Something that I realized after I retired was how I accumulated a lot of "stuff" through the years and that I probably used them as rewards in dealing with job stress. It was as if my happiness was determined by how much stuff I had accumulated, even though much of it I seldom needed. Today, I'm not sure I'll ever need another tool or piece of equipment, even after selling off as much as I can.

Earlier this week I attended the funeral of an uncle who lived a long time and was married to my aunt for more than 62 years. I'm not sure I would have thought about that funeral in same way had I still been working a job. Seeing my aunt so distraught made me realize that enjoying loved ones is what matters most, especially in your golden years while you still have the health to do so.

It all depends on the race and its prize.

I'm starting to trash anything that I haven't used in three years. Taking things to the women's center.

When I was younger I bought stuff that made me happy and found out later it doesn't. Man the money and time I spent is mind blowing and nobody wants it.

I saw that writing on the wall and started selling stuff. I sent a bunch of stuff to RIAC I think that was the best idea I had in a long time everything went smoothly couldn't ask for a better experience but I still have sellers remorse..

I didn't realize that I collected so much stuff. Brought home extra from work, extra hunting stuff, to many tools, the honey-dos still there, watching the money more closely on and on

One man's treasure is another man's junk. That's one thing I totally don't get about estate sales. I had a 12 gauge BL 3, with 26 inch barrels, choked skeet, and skeet. I didn't miss while shooting it. I wanted more challenge. I gave it to a friend. He recently went to see Jesus. His wife contacted me to return the shotgun. I passed.

The world stood still the first time I shot a quail over a point. I completely gave up deer hunting. I had a Remington 742. I checked the price at a gun shop in El Campo. They said maybe $50. The gas would cost me that much. I gave it away.

It takes me twice as long to do half as much.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

My biggest change was walking away from the place I had been hunting for more than 10 years. It had become my escape where I would go just about every other week to mow and work on stuff. It was just me and one of the heirs who hunted the place and I did the vast majority of the work, which never bothered me because it kept my mind off work. Now that I don't have that problem, I found another place nearby that suits me well. It's never been hunted and the landowner wants someone who doesn't hunt with feeders and isn't expecting to limit out. I might hunt it a few times this season and will spend a lot more weekends at home and not wasting near as much time and money. More trips with the wife are now in the future.

I realized that I liked working and that I should never have retired.

I left the job, but the job stayed in my head for months. Now I can’t imagine working.

And I’m with Oxner, in that I loved quail hunting. It was wonderful.

I'm 76, retired about 10 years ago and am in pretty good shape physically. Wife is 65 and retires next year. Maybe; she's thinking about staying another year.

Money? I think we have enough to make it but how do you know? We're debt free and that helps. I have to be sure that she will be OK.

I've already done most of the things that I want to do by myself. I have a place about at Bowie; 70 miles from home in Hurst. So I spend a lot of time there doing "stuff".

I really consider retirement as the most boring job I've ever had.

I retired in January of this year. Month I turned 53. Mostly just taking some time to figure out what I want to do. Working on my place and such. Not sure if I want another completely different career or just do things I want. Not worried about finances. That should be fine and I totally and trust that the Lord will take care of that. Thinking about maybe trying something I have never even considered. So I guess I have realized I am at a place of flux.

At 60, I'm very much in that same boat at this point. I've told others that I feel like I'm shopping in a store with no particular interest in mind, but would be glad to buy something (take a new job) if I see something that really attracts my attention.
