About to be heading up to beavers bend for 3 days. My youngest graduated HS and taking her and her friends. Having the kayak trip down the river booked for one day. I don't know anything about the area, so any advice on good places to eat or things to do on the non-kayak trip day would be great.

Shuck Me would be the place to eat. We usually make two trips a year up there and take our own food to cook. I have yet to find another restaurant I would want to go back to. Grateful Head has some good beers, but you have to have a few because the pizza is no good IMO. Basically it’s just like Pizza Pro or something along those lines.

Pretty much, Beavers Bend is the area and park North of Broken Bow. Hochatown is actually the closest town.

Try the Blue Rooster in Hochatown. Good food, but not great.

We've been on the kayak trip a few times. The wildest ride you may get will be in the beat up, junky, doggy old van from any of the kayak places to the drop off point. Quite scary!!

x2 on that van ride. Lots of good hiking in the State Park. We usually rent a boat for a day. The river is nice but if you can spend some time on the actual Lake it'd be time well spent...

Seems like I remember seeing an Injun casino right where you turn off the main drag. Don't know what the minimum age to get in is though. Been years since I was up there.

Grateful Head pizza! Great food Try the Blue Rooster in Hochatown. Good food, but not great. Lots of great hiking trails in the State Park. Kayak the Mountain Fork River.. Drive north and view the National Forest. Sight see around the lake.
You should have been here yesterday!

We just returned from Hochatown. We were there for our twins’ 6th birthday.
Greatful Head was a huge let down. Took 1.5 hours to get our pizza from time we ordered. Saw waitress 3 times while we were there. Pizza was just ok. Will not go back.
Blue Rooster was decent, but nothing special either.
I would just plan on bringing your own food.
Hiking was great.
Jet Boat Joes was a good time, as was Bigfoot Speedway.

one of my favorite places to go with my wife, went during the off season but during the spring when the fishing was good. Grateful head was really good IMO and had a good beer selection. Going back in december

Is beavers bend and broken bow the same thing ? Broken Bow Lake empties into the river at Beavers Bend State Park.

I prefer the Blue Rooster to Grateful Head myself, but I am a sucker for their spicy fried chicken. Shuck Me is good too.
If you fish, they have some great trout fishing in the river. Guides are relatively cheap and can usually put in some areas with good fishing. Once you know where to go and how are the best methods in various waters, you can do it yourself after that.

I'm late to the party but here is my advice - from someone who vacations a few times a year, goes up a few times to take the dogs swimming in the lake and relax, and someone in the spring and fall who drives up to fish a couple times a month:
-Greatful Head sucks, Bluerooster sucks. Avoid them.
Mountain Fork Brewery has good food (pizza, sandwiches, and I believe they've just expanded their menu). Shuck Me is next door to Mtn Fork - it is owned by a TFF'r. The food ranges from good to okay. Just depends on the day. There are a few other places around that have decent food - but we've found it can be pretty hit or miss.
If you're renting a "cabin" (can't really call them cabins when they're as nice as they are) and you want to cook - there is a grocery store in Broken Bow - it is decent. There is a meat market between Broken Bow and Hochatown - we've stopped in once and it wasn't too bad. The Walmart in Broken Bow is a throwback to the 80s & 90s Walmarts in Texas...we avoid it for the most part.
Casino is in Broken Bow - 18 and up to gamble in OK.
Kayaking the river is just okay. It will be crowded this time of year. There is a sandy swim beach within the state park on the river. The lake itself does not offer any "sandy" beaches. It is rocky and drops off quick just about everywhere - with that said we still enjoy swimming there. Drive through the hochatown state park entrance (Stevens Gap rd) all the way to the end (staying right at the fork and then follow the signs). It dead ends into a long peninsula where there are all kinds of places to pull up and swim. The closer to the end - the colder the water.
We enjoyed zip lining with Rugaru Adventures. It was reasonably priced and a decent zip line course. We did the duck boat tour last summer because some family went with us and wanted to go - it was ok. We hike a bunch when we go up in the fall...I can't see wanting to hike this time of year - but if you do there are trails ranging from half a mile long to many miles. The trail in Hochatown State Park (go left at the fork on Stevens Gap - it dead ends to the only lodge on the lake) is pretty scenic - if I remember there is a mile loop, but we usually do the 7.5-8 mile loop.
Fishing - I would rent a boat if you want to fish in the lake. If you want to catch trout to cook: go to the spillway. It may be crowded. You want to be as close to the river as possible - on the end. Carolina rigged (1/8th oz weight works fine) with a trout hook. Mousetails power bait or corn. Or salmon eggs...Cast out just to the edge of the current (as far as you can). You should be able to catch enough stocker trout to eat this way. I have my own places and secrets for bigger trout (not fishing bait) - but that should keep everyone happy and get some fish in the grease/grill for you...they are much bigger than the crap they stock in Texas. They're stocked every two weeks and during the summer I can guarantee they'll stock there at the spillway since it is the coldest water. You CANNOT use bait and barbed hooks everywhere - but you are LEGAL to do this at the spillway. GET A LICENSE.

Thanks for the great info!
The girls are all 18 and have asked about stopping at a casino but I thought it was 21 and over. I don't think they will want to fish but I may have to let them hang out alone for awhile while I go try y hand at the spillway, the only trout IVe ever caught are the tiny one stocked yearly around here. And yes, the cabin is basically a log mansion, lol.

Abendigos was closed so went to Shuck Me. It was not good. First off, for 7 people it was $180. And the fried catfish and fried shrimp were gross. The Frozen margarita couldn't even be drank. Very disappointing, wont ever go back there. The rest of our eating over the three days was sandwiches and stuff we got at the grocery.
We did the 8 mile kayak trip and it was VERY long. Stick to the 5 mile trip that still goes over the waterfall. It was a very fun day on the river though.
We stopped at the little grocery store in Broken Bow, its like an old 1980's grocery store before everything became super stores.
There are a lot of different cool areas to explore at different parts of the river going around the 259a loop in the park.
We went to the river just below the spillway and that is a beautiful spot. the kids swam in the freezing cold water and climbed on all the rocks and I fished even though I didn't catch anything.
Stopped at Choctaw casino on the way up and won $120, so that's always good.
Our "cabin", aka log mansion was very nice.
Really enjoyed the area and will be going back a couple times a year as its only a 2.5 hour drive from home.
