Not genetic. He had may or may not look like that next years as it appears to be antler damage. So many want to "cull" a buck due to this "look" when they may never look like it again. I agree that he is a younger buck.

Yelp, in other words let the good side be your theoretical “look” indicator

I do not even judge the "look" by the good side unless I have a year or two of photo history of the buck.

That was just a shadow I think. I had a bunch of pic's of that one and he looked young and healthy....except for his horn. His buddy with the better rack looks like an old guy...

I agree its very unlikely its genetic. We have had several similar deer on our place through the years. One of my main guys that I respect used to insist it was genetic. I did some research and just about got him convinced. Besides it being from an "injury", often times the shed does not drop off cleanly and it leaves the pedicle damaged. That damage just wont let the new antler grow back correctly. From what little I know, it may grow back normally in future years or it may not. But as others have said he is too young, IMO.
By the way, I don't have any idea where Stxranchman has been but I am very glad he is back.

I have 3 deer on my 5 acres by the house that have one antler or at least the second one is very small to non- existent. Seems strange but they aren't all on the same side so assuming not genetics.
