simple trailer backing instruction ...
easiest way to get used to doing it ... put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and use your mirrors, if you want the trailer to move to the left, move your hand to the left ... if you want the trailer to go to the right, move your hand to the right.
once you get used to that, if you have your hand on the top of the steering wheel, reverse the instructions ... if you want the trailer to move to the left, move your hand to the right ... if you want the trailer to go to the right, move your hand to the left.
as others have stated, I would stay away from the lake until after this weekend and when you do go, try to go during the middle of the week a few times to get the hang of things. This is very helpful, I still hold the bottom of the wheel. A trick my dad taught me when backing down a boat ramp is to put the truck in Neutral? Gravity is taking you backwards already, no need to help it or accidentally hit the wrong pedal. Adding speed when backing only makes things worse. Thats not a bad idea actually. The last ramp i used was quite steep N would have been more than enough

If I’m at the lake..... I didn’t bring fishing equipment....
I go to the lake to ski, wakeboard, surf and let the kids tube.
Remember 2beez, I don’t own a fishing pole.
Unhooking the front strap can be a problem if for some reason your boat will not start.
Unhooking the front strap before backing down the boat ramp can leave your boat sitting on the concrete.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

When I was a senior in HS I bought my my first bass boat and I was a little nervous about the ramp. My uncle told me to always go in the middle or block as many lanes as I could. That way if I was in trouble or being too slow someone would surely offer to help out!

Yes you prep your boat for launch during the wait. Plug, straps coolers etc etc etc. Only thing the ramp is for, is the launch. DO NOT unhook the front strap until the boat is floating and running.... period Amateur Depends on the weather. If it’s dead calm, I let mine slide off about a foot, then the weight holds the boat in place. Hop on, crank her up and power off with one little rev. Bad weather, I leave it till I get back there.
Man if I knew what Oxner knows I could throw away what I know

Find an empty parking lot and back until you’re comfortable. Put the boat in striped parking spaces from an angle after you have backing straight figured out. A couple of hours and a bunch of curse words later and you should be proficient. If not tell your wife she has to learn so you can stay in the boat and make a faster launch.

My wife backs me in waits on the motor to start and pulls out takes about a minute or two. Loading I sit back out of the way until she is backing in the water and ease up to the trailer and power on she latches the boat and drives out.

I used to go fishing all the time in the 80s there with grandad. One very cold day in the 20s, the rope I would hold when he launched slipped out of my hands... It was way too short for a kid to hold. I took a swim to grab it fearing he would have a heart attack if he jumped in. I swam it back to shore about 30 yards and he had me strip down and wrapped a blanket on me. We hit the laundrymat in Lewisville to dry my clothes and nothing was ever to be spoken about it to anyone.. We were fishing 2 hours later.

A lot of the ramps were closed last week due to the high water

DO NOT unhook the front strap until the boat is floating and running.... period Depends on what type of boat, I have a bassboat and always unhook the front strap when I get it ready to back down, the same time I remove the motor holder and the back straps. I do put on the strap to pull it out of the water
