Well not all is well around here dad was out of town for almost three weeks so I had his puppy lab at the house taking care of it and crate training it for him. Last wednday, which was the day my dad got home, the dog started acting off, wouldn't eat and was lethargic. So off to the vet on Thursday. Taylor has parvo. Long story short she was hospitalized and passed away on sunday. If that was bad enough my puppy which was a couple weeks younger now came down with it. Sunday morning was the last time he ate on his own. I took him to the vet Monday and got the parvo test done to make sure it was that and now we have been on a strict protocol at the house force feeding him and doing iv bags, I decided not to leave my dog at the vet as we believed he would get better care at home with us. knock on wood but this morning is the first time he has ate anything on his own since last sunday morning and he was up and playing around with the kids today. So we are doing everything that we can and praying that moose will make it through. I had a talk with him last night as we were laying on the couch and told him he needed to start eating on his on so he can make it through this.

I have a Jack Russel that had it as a pup. Rough time but he made it through and has no problems at all from it. That was 10 years ago. He is in better hands with you. They need constant attention while I'll plus there's a lack of extra stress vs the vets office. Good luck!

Sounds like you might be over the hump.

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

It's a terrible disease and so very difficult to kill. It can stay alive in the dirt for years. You can do everything the right way and still they can get it.

I held two 8 weeks old puppies in my arms as they died. Absolutely terrible experience.

I hope your pup is getting better.

parvo takes them down quick, but if you can get iv bags and do it yourself, you only have to keep them alive for about two days before they start making quick progress. normally 2-3 bags per day. if you cant get or do that, they make something similar to a drencher for calves you can use and keep them full of Gatorade, but it doesn't work as good as ivs. If he is eating on his own, he should pull out of it just fine. I think they mostly die when you take them to the vet because most of them simply do not care for them the way that they need.

He is starting to get more energy back and wants to play. He ate more food on his own yesterday and ate half a can of dog food this morning. All good signs.

You're a lucky man. At 7 weeks I brought home a pup that fell sick the next day with parvo. My vet is a blessing and stuck with her for two weeks and pulled her through. Even had to use a drug used in cancer treatments to raise white cell count. It's nasty and a lot of the time deadly. Hope he continues to get stronger, a very good sign.

It is terrible. My dads dog didn't make it past day three, We are on five or six now. He has been playing with the kids all day and has eaten more food own his own. It looks like he will pull through, but we are still keeping a close eye on him.

That's great. It's a terrible virus. Takes a lot of work to get them through it. Moose is lucky to have you as a family member.

more so my girlfriend she did all the work babying him and force feeding and gave the medicine while I was at work. She is attached at the hip to him and the kids love him. Irritates them all when I come home and he comes running to me. clap
