Hey guys this old Ga Dog is getting his hopes up for a decent quail crop due to the good rains. I've seen the first whistle counts and know they are "near" long term average. But I have not seen any reports of young birds.I hunt near Knox City and my landowner has seen one covey of baby quail just last week. I would love to hear some reports from the Rolling Plains, If you have seen babies how about giving us a report I'm sure it will put a smile on the faces of most on this forum. WISHING EVERYONE a great hunting season.

I saw a covey of about 15 young birds with a single adult in Collingsworth county last week. Could barely fly. They were in dense shinnery next to a millet food plot. Encouraging to see.

I've had two reports from North & NW of Abilene, (Noodle and Stamford) both said every spot they stopped, birds were whistling from every direction and they saw several pairs. Neither saw any babies but both said its very thick. Also two reports from East of Dickens, saying the same (whistling, pairs and very thick). I'm on a new lease east of Dickens this season so fingers crossed.

Great to hear, maybe mother nature has done us a big favor.

I saw a pair on Katz oilfield a couple of days ago west of KnoX City with no babies. The hands thought they might be on the second hatch. They’ve seen pairs with big babies. I stopped at my lease north of Throckmorton that morning and didn’t see any but there was a lot of whistling.
