My lab, turns 3 this September, as suddenly had a loss of appetite. Like starting Monday. She still eats her food, but she used to just go crazy over it. Feed her tonight, she left a little in there which she has never done. She seems fine other than this. My other lab, was never that crazy about food, it least from what I remember.

Maybe she is just getting old or something to be concerned about? She is do for a check up with her vet, so I will ask my vet about this. I have not changed her food either.

if she's staying outside, the heat may be playing a little roll in it.

I am sure you already checked, but just in case check her teeth and roof of mouth to make sure nothing is stuck between her teeth causing some pain. Second time this happened to Dash I knew immediately what to look for when he suddenly stopped eating.

I check the roof of her mouth, not that lol. She stays inside so not the heat. When I got home she was like normal all excited to see me and ready to go the park. Just not crazy over food like she normally is. Taking her to the vet tomorrow. I hope she is just getting older and selling down.

Just like most things with our bird dogs health, it could be anything. Could be stress related, can always take her temperature, check her ears, any inflammation on tooth/gums? If you feed her dry dog food how new is the bag? As long as she is still eating and her energy levels haven't changed, not much to worry about. Put some broth on her food and see if it is just a flavor thing.


From my experience with my lab who is now 10...... a lot has changed over the years but not her appetite.

Broth has worked great for my old brittany. She had stopped eating some days, but with some broth she hammers it down. She's a fan of the bacon flavor.

I hope she is OK and it ends up being nothing. Maybe she just caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and wants to drop a few before early teal.

Our lab just turned 2, and over the weekend, his appetite fell to crap, and his energy level was way down. Took him to the vet Monday. Ear infection. So mullet head got an injection, and a 10 day supply of anti-biotics. Doing much much better. I'm sure your pup will be fine.

Took her to the vet. I been feeding her once a day at night, because I just always worried about her eating in the morning, then she runs hard and her stomach twists. Feed my previous lab Molly like this her entire life. Well Doc thinks this is the issue, she is getting acid build up in her stomach, and the heat does not help... She has been throwing up yellow liquid that looks very acidy...

So tomorrow she we’ll be feed morning and night, hopefully this resolves her issue. Thx for the comments.

When my Brittany slows down on his food, I apply Hydrogen Peroxide. I usually get a polyester ankle sock or something similar for my efforts. Got a neoprene koozies back once.

Stools ok?

I have one lab that needs to eat about every 12 hours or she'll start to get nauseous and vomit stomach acid.

I typically judge my dogs gut health on their stools.

If they are having good firm stools I feel like they are probably alright.

Softer than normal, but firm enough to clean up.

All that is normal. Feeding her morning and night now, maybe she is a little better. But here is the thing, she is eating all her food and seems fine, has all week. Only thing is, she used to just go crazy over her feed time, now just ho hum. I actually prefer her to be like this, it scares me when she is so crazy about food, I'm always afraid she will eat something she shouldn't. It is just odd how her appetite over food changed all of a sudden, one day. Vet was not concerned.

It’s because the dog is eating twice a day, not as hungry.

No that is what we changed after seeing the vet. And she is getting the same amount of food per day, just 2 half portions as before.

Guy, My yellow Lab started this at the age of 6. He didn't seem like he wanted to eat and was throwing up yellow liquid, the vet said it was excess stomach acid. We started to give him Prilosec that calmed the acid down and his appetite came back. He lived to be 13 1/2 yrs.
