Gonna try it ya'lls way with a mini ladder test Friday. I need to sight in the new rifle and find a quick load to get me through my prairie dog hunt. Then I can experiment with other bullets and powders. I Loaded these, looking for more accuracy than 50 more fps .22 Creedmoor, Berger 80.5 Full bore, H-4350, 39.5 40.5 41.5 Most reloaders are seeing pressure close to 43.0 I have some 90gr SMK's coming, may try these with H-4831sc. I'll post pics Friday afternoon CO-AX is sweeeet

Three rounds is a waste of time to set everything up for a ladder. 9 rounds would be a minimum, and you are stepping too far. If you handed that rifle to me, I would load.
40.6 X 10 rounds 40.9 41.2 41.5 41.8 42.1 42.4 42.7 43.0
Clean the barrel, 40.6 gr loads; use one round as a CBS, dial in to get zeroed at 100 yards. Use rounds 2 through 5 to foul. Rounds 6-8 to tweak zero and continue to foul. Round 9 to ding steel or paper, as a sighter at 500 yards. Round 10 gets included in the ladder test, along with 40.9, and 41.2. Give 5 minutes to cool, shoot the next three, repeat.

Right. What are you planning to do with three rounds, a full grain apart?

Listen to Jason, Buzz.
The ladder serves two purposes....shows you where the node is and shows you where pressure is. Rarely do I load a ladder and not have to pull at least a couple bullets because I found pressure before I got to the end of my loaded ladder.
Buzz - I'm proud of you and might have to eat some crow over this one. Stay with it, we'll help ya.

Buzz, have you ever owned a rifle long enough to shoot out a barrel?

Buzzsaw, it would be a shame not to take full advantage of the potential of a rig like you just acquired. It is also an excellent opportunity to put your new press through its paces. The advice you have been given will fast track you to the accuracy node with the components you are loading and actually save you time and $. Tight groups

Buzz time invested on a ladder test is insignificant. If you have time to load and shoot 3 you have time to load and shoot 20. I personally do not do ladder test and tend to waste more time and ammo doing rounds of 5 in .3 increments. I do it because I enjoy it. Even not using ladder test personally I can’t see where a 3 round test will give any result. How does it work? Do you pick the two closest together and go between them? I am being serious due to my ignorance on the subject.

Rounds not loaded alike will group, at distance. 300 yards is the minimum, 500 yards is easier to read.
When three charges that are loaded close together, that tells you the area where to focus your group shooting. And when I say group, I mean, I've seen three loads, that didn't match land within an inch of each other at 500 yards. You only look at vertical, wind causes horizontal. But I have had some that cut two bullets touching at 500 yards.
You color the bullets with a Sharpie so you know what bullet hole was which powder charge. I go blue, yellow, red. The ink will transfer to paper. I shoot 3, then drive down to paper. Label the bullet hole to the corresponding powder charge. Take a photo, drive back to the zero line, repeat. The reason for the photo, is that case of two bullets sitting side by side, you can look back at the photo and know what happened on the next volley.

Ought to be a good ladder shoot. Belching, farts and burps at the range.
