How is the fawn population in your area? Has all this rain helped or hurt the population of deer.

Absolutely covered up right now...lost a few due to agricultural practices but the dawn crop looks good so far

I had a doe and fawn cross the road in front of me yesterday. The fawn didn't look to be over 18" tall and had trouble crossing through a barbed wire fence. Cute little bugger.

I have found that fawn crops generally follow the amount of rainfall ..usually... for us it is during month of April...we have almost 80% fawn crop this year...most I have ever had. However, some leases have much more production. We have a young doe heard which limits us somewhat. I am very happy with this years crop. The higher fawn production could cause problems for others having trouble controlling ratios.
For us ...we love it..as there is a high doe harvests due to the density of hunters around our place.

We have a lot of fawns this year. Twins hang out in the front yard most days. This morning I had to drive the Kubota up to the front gate to fix a bad wire on the opener, and I scared up the mom and Twins. She jumped the fence, but the little folk hid behind a bush and watched me for a while. Two little faces with big ears.

Parents have a few dropped around their house in the yard like normal. Have seen a few around the house just driving. None at the ranch so far but don't expect them quite yet either.

My wife just said that a doe just dropped a fawn in the front pasture.

brings up the question on pasture shredding ... I need to go do some shredding around Lake LBJ, Sunrise Beach area this coming weekend ... am I going to be chopping up fawns or should they be old enough to leave with their mama?

Shredding bad this time of year....in April I was shredding a pen ...grass four inches tall but I was looking ahead and ran over a little fellow. Felt bad ..learned a lesson ...too late to be shredding with the young ones around...they can hide in very little grass. Good luck.

hmmmm ... shredding for a friend that has a big crowd of family coming in for the long 4th of July weekend. This is about the only time I have available, so guess I will just have to be overly cautious and will likely leave some of the side pastures untouched.

The fawns I'm seeing are pretty decent size now.

Got another set of twins in the front yard/pasture today. That’s two sets of twins this year. Never had two sets in the front yard before at the same time. The wife is all excited.

Saw a fawn with a doe near Meadowmere Park in the city of Grapevine yesterday afternoon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the number of fawns dropped is directly related to how many does were bred in the fall, correct? That means the rain now doesn't affect it. Now the number of fawns that survive is affected by the rain.

Of course, in a bad winter, more of the pregnant does die, and likely more of the fawns die early due to poor nutrition.

I shredded a place a coupe weeks ago and a little guy was scrambling to get out of the way, could barely stand up and I almost ran him over. So I carried him pretty far away by a culvert so he would be safe. About an hour later I had to finish up the spot where I first saw him and I almost ran him over again, somehow he managed to get back to his original spot, so I tucked him up under a little tree and scolded him a bit...haha...he did stay there the whole time I was working.

I saw a bunch last weekend in Junction. The does are much healthier this year, when we bought the place in August last year they had not been fed any protein or corn in months and it was so dry, we had does that were skin and bones. This year they have not gone without corn or protein and the grass is super thick from all the rain so they look fat and happy. We are headed up for a long July 4th weekend and can't wait to see how things are looking.

Side note, we saw 2 turkeys all last season and since clearing about 40 acres in small patches and with all the rain, we have turkeys everywhere.

I kicked out 4-5 new fawns while shredding last Friday and didn't chop any up Between me shredding and my wife trimming limbs along the road & garage apartment, we saw a total of probably 30 does, 9-10 fawns and a few younger bucks ... this was all on 12 acres but in Sunrise Beach that is overflowing with deer, like an all inclusive beach vacation spot for them without any natural predators
