Anyone have an opinion regarding all purpose rangefinders?

I'm considering the following:

- Leupold RX-1600i
- SIG Kilo 2000
- Nikon Monarch 2000

Not looking for tons of features...just good accuracy up to 1,000 yards and decent optics. I'll use this to range for hunting and perhaps some golf...hence the multi-purpose need.

Forget what the model name is, but I bought a vortex 1800 something or other.

I looked at the vortex mainly because of the warranty. Most others have a very short warranty time compared to other optics like a scope etc.

I used mine a lot the first year just screwing with it and it seemed to work great. I forget who now, but someone dropped it from counter height 3-4 feet onto a bare concrete floor and its not even scratched. Ive been happy with it.

The Sig laser is the one I have the most faith in, out to 1000 yards.

Well, I've done some reading and all the articles with any mention of dual purpose (hunting/golf) state that one should purchase a more hunting oriented rangefinder as most golf options only have 500 yard capabilities. It also mentions having multi mode detection as a necessity to differentiate between distant and more near objects.

On a different note...I will say the SIG options and particularly the rangefinders that pair with the scopes are freakin' cool.

I went from and old monarch 1200 to a bushnell conx. Love it and its not of the few that still have an integral female thread so I can use my tripod qds and not have to buy a separate mount. It also links up with my kestrel or phone which is nice

Buy a Leica. I finally did. There’s a big difference in ranging targets and ranging a small mud covered pig, and the Sig I bought didn’t range small brown varmints very well. The Leica does. I’ve ranged deer out to 900 yards with my 2000B. The old Nikon was good only to 400 yards, and the Sig Kilo 1250 that I had for a short time would sometimes range a deer to 700 or so, and sometimes it would give no reading at all. Very frustrating and not acceptable.

The Leica 2000B is just what I needed.

In all fairness, he's talking about the Sig 2000. Evidently there is a quality gap between it, and the one you had. A friend of mine has the 2000 and would outperform the laser in my Leica Geovid range finding binoculars.

I have my buddies sig kilo 2400 right now. It is a game changer and I now want one real bad

Rather than speak poorly about the Sig rangefinder I had, I should have made more of a point about the need to try the RF in the field. Ranging targets well doesn’t translate equally to ranging coyotes. The Nikon (Nikon 600) I used to use would range reflective objects to around 1000 yards, but was limited to 400 on deer and coyotes. I really liked the Nikon, but I needed a bit more performance.

I tried to do some useful research on the internet, but the vast majority of the info I could find had nothing to do with long distance pig/deer/coyote ranging capability. The Sig 1250 just wasn’t good enough, though maybe a more expensive model would have given me what I wanted. But if I was going to spend more money, which I did, I just could not see the logic of buying Sig over Leica. And the Leica was on sale.

None of them range dull targets like deer, 'yotes, etc as wll as reflective targets. My Geovid was exactly like that. I figure you can take the RF's capability, and the ability to consistently range dull targets is about half of that. For Example my Leupold TBR 1200 consistently ranges deer out to about 700 max, and every RF I've ever owned did the same thing, once again including my Geovid. I usually always have to find a reflective target near the deer to get a reading beyond that. Also, the Geovid I had, once the temperatures got to freezing and below, would not range anything past 300 yds.

Clear and sunny wreak havoc on all of them, as well. So much infrared in the spectrum, the laser gets washed. They will range farther on overcast days. Therefore, whatever they are labeled as a rated distance, cut that in half for their true reliable distance.

Whatever you choose, if you go with Midway USA don't worry about the "blem" designation. Bought a blem. scope from them, Leupold VX3i at a great price. Only thing I can tell about it was the price, good deal.

I'd recommend buying far more range finder than you need. I wanted to be able to range deer size critters to 500 yards. Nearly every range finder I looked at says it would do it. I ended up buying one advertising 1800 yards and am pleased. The maximum rated ranges are mostly if not all on perfect reflective and probably larger than deer sized targets. If you want to range something smaller like a wt deer and non reflective your not going to be going off the max rated distance.

I have the Vortex Ranger 1800 and it has been good. I should have bought the Sig.

I went with a SIG Kilo 1800 BDX after looking at the Leupold, Nikon, and Vortex at Cabela's.

I like how the SIG very quickly calculates the distance as you sweep left or right...impressive that there is virtually no lag.

I will also say I'm also intrigued with the BDX technology, once I pick up a 6.5 PRC, a SIG scope will be the default scope to pair with my Kilo 1800.

I've historically purchased SIG pistols and I'm equally impressed with the rangefinder, thus far.

Camofire has a Sig every once in a while .
Is it a backlit display?

We were gifted a Gunwerks BR2 after a friend 's mule deer hunt last fall. It is very impressive on animals out to 1,200+ yds. Still haven't figured out how to use all the features though.
