For a hunting rifle, what weight do you like on your trigger? Seems like a lot of aftermarket triggers can get so light on the pull that I, personally, wouldn't fill comfortable for my hunting trigger. 3-4lbs seems to be right for me but curious what others have found that they like.

I am looking at one trigger now that has a pull weight of 4oz-32oz for a 700 trigger. Hard for me to see that as being for anything but a bench style rifle.

For hunting, ~3lbs or so. I haven't measured my CTR but it shoots pretty well at the factory setting. My M70 is set at 3.5.

I like 3lb, some I have are a little less.

What I have read about the savage accutigger says its adjustable from 1.5 - 6 lbs with the little tool that comes with the gun. I don't know what mine was set at from the factory, but I backed it off all the way as light as it will go (should be the 1.5 lb) and it is a noticeable difference from factory setting. I have only dry fired it since the change as I haven't started working up a new load, but it is very noticeable.

I like 3.5 lbs on my hunting rigs. Any lighter is a safety concern in my mind. Especially in some of the rough terrain I've hunted.

Bench rifles get cranked down to 1.5 to 2 lbs.

I like 2.5 lbs for a hunting rifle. That's a good light weight pull for a hunting rifle. On my target rifles, I like about 1 to 1.5 lb pull. Anything less than 1 lb is too light for me. I've shot some that were about 10-12 oz, and that's light!

I really like 2.5 pounds now. I used to do 3-3.5 pounds, but started playing with a timney I put in a few years back and it feels so much better, imo.

I got a Timney Elite Hunter for my Rem 700 Mountain Rifle set a 2.5 from Timney. Feels good.

2-3 for hunting. Anything over 3 I feel like I need help pulling the trigger. I even changed the trigger in my Marlin to a Wild West trigger to get the pull down.

I like around a 3 lb pull, but with ZERO creep. I don't like a creepy trigger.

I've shot some hunting rifles with 1-1.5 lb triggers and that's way too light for my taste.


I shot a target gun that had I believe a 4 oz. trigger on it. I think it would go off just from me thinking about pulling the trigger.

All my rifles are set at 2 lbs. For hunting and paper except my Marlin 1894.

I don't use Remington 700 triggers.

Bolts are usually open, and get closed when I need to make a shot.

I think a light trigger like that would be great on a varmint rifle. I have a couple of air rifles with very light and sweet triggers, as long as it's designed to be set that light and you don't do things like walk around with your finger on the trigger then why not. On the other hand, I can still shoot pretty good with a 6 pound trigger or even heavier if need be. As long as it's no heavier than that and there is no creep, a 5-6 pound single stage trigger with no over travel can still be pretty nice. Probably not gonna win any conpetitions though.

My own personal preference, is the trigger is heavy enough that I need to press it deliberately. I am not a huge fan of ultralight triggers, except on spring powered air rifles that require a dead soft touch to shoot accurately. On springers I gotta have a real nice trigger.

My bench guns are less than 6 oz...I bought a Wheeler trigger gauge and none of them registered

Hunting guns are around a pound.

I have two Tikkas turned down as low as possible. I think that's 2lbs. Two Timneys on Remington's are 2.5.

That will fix the the 1894 up if you want to lighten it. A little polishing while it�s apart will get it even lower.

QSYB, You mentioned M70-i figured you for a straight Tikka man. Is it pre64 and what caliber?
To keep this on topic ill say that all 3 of my M70s are 2.5 give or take a little.

Dumb as dirt compared to yall gun nuts but im trying to learn. Is the safety issue with a too light trigger that it could go off without even touching the trigger or is it just a concern that you can get on the trigger without being ready to fire and it will go off unexpectedly. I have never had either issue with mine at 2.5.

One of my Timney's is set at 2.5 and the other at 3.0. I prefer the 2.5.

All my hunting rifles are set at 3.5 pounds. That seems to be the best pull for me.
