When we created the 110g Hammer Hunter I felt it was the perfect bullet for the 6.5 Creed. This bullet will get the Creed up to ~3150fps with a relatively high bc bullet. I am a bit of a vel hound so to me this would be perfect. At that vel you would have 1800fps out to 700y at an elevation of 1000' above sea level. A max point blank range of 384 yard with a zero at 330y. This would mean that you would be inside a 5" radius circle from zero to 384y with no compensation in hold. In other words you could hold center mass on a deer out to 380y and be inside the pump house. I always zero my rifles at 300y because it is easier than the odd number that is calculated with max point blank range. So with a 300y zero you would maintain the 5" kill zone out to 360y and still have an impact vel of 2400fps. At 400y you would still have an impact vel of 2300fps. This would be good medicine for any of our North American game animals to 400y easy.

With all that said with your 300y range limit the Sledge Hammer line of bullets would be perfect. Like Dave said he used the 130g Sledge Hammer in his Creed when we were in Africa a month ago and took a nice warthog and a blesbuck with zero tracking. Both of these animals were taken with traditional shots in the vitals, so no tracking is a pretty big deal, particularly with the African animals that are quite tough. I would expect the same good terminal performance from the Hammer Hunter line as well. The Sledge Hammers can not be denied for their hard hitting impacts and normal range hunting.[/b][/b]

I always thought point blank range used a 6 inch circle/3 inch radius.

3150 fps with a 110 grain solid bullet should work well. The comments quoted are not generally the "normal" way for MPBR. For example, max point blank range (MPBR) is generally defined where the bullet doesn't go higher than 3" or lower than 3", hence the 6" circle redchevy said. They also said the 110 grain had "a relatively high bc bullet", which I looked it up of .204 G7. That puts it about a .400 G1 BC, so not very high at all. Also, most copper bullets need velocity to reliably open up. At 3150 FPS muzzle velocity, that would work well for an expanding solid. I don't know what their typical bullet does, so I can't comment on that. But most solids, like a Barnes TSX or Hornady GMX need about 2200-2500 fps for minimal expansion, and the faster you go, the more expansion you get. For a tough bullet inside of 300 yards, it should work well. But at $1.10 per bullet, that's a lot more expensive than I even shoot.

You should get expansion down to 1800fps. Hammer bullets have a very loyal following. The owner, i cant remember his name but he is friendly and helpful. He is very active on long range hunting.
