I bought 3 Transcaspian Urials a while back. Three ewes and a yearling ram. One of the ewes had a single and the other had twins. A considerable amount of moneys involved. Coyotes first got the twins because they were the smallest. Then now the oldest single. And yes I do just about everything I can to keep them safe. I have stay tuff predator fence. I have predator lights. I do it all. Probably right now $7500 loss. Future loss over $20,000.

Sad to see don k. I hope you get a shot at them vagrant dogs. We were down that way just a couple days ago touring the back roads near utopia and we came up on a fence with 7 or 8 good coyotes hanging. Wife asked me what for. When I get home I'll show her this thread.

Love that country down there. We went on an overnight just to see it. Sure is green.

Sorry for your loss, in the 90's out near El Paso(Hueco Tanks) I used a baby goat tied about 6 inches short of being able to reach his food pan, killed 7 coyotes in just over an hour...and Culberson County was paying a bounty for pairs of ears too. That was my best "dog shoot" but I killed a bunch that spring and missed a mountain lion that wouldn't come out of the rocks. Coyotes could not resist that crying, mewling sound that baby goat made...might be worth a try

Dang, that sucks.
We had two coyotes get inside of my brothers HF. He lost every blackbuck and fallow fawn that he had. We found where they dug under the fence and snared one as he went through. The other a local trapper got in a foot trap. He has never had a coyote get in again. They are fawn killers for sure.

I'm sorry, Don. I hate those dogs with a passion. We've trapped 14 since September and the neighbor won't let us fly their place with the helicopter. When I was at the ranch three weeks ago they'd made three kills in four nights. mad

Dang that sucks Don.

Wonder if anyone's ever trained a Russian Wolfhound to find and chase down coyotes? I love those huge, medieval looking dogs.

The coyotes are not living on my property as far as I know. When they dig in i it is from the outside. And only one of the neighbors that touch me actually does anything to try to get rid of the coyotes. The rest either have no sheep or goats or only have cattle or some have nothing. This type of killing does not happen all the time. Once in a while a coyote gets the taste of young sheep, goats or WT fawns. Then you have problems until you get that one coyote. I had a problem last year with one getting my yearling Ibex. I found where he was coming from. That was a good neighbors place and he told me to do what I needed to do on his property. I must have got the coyote because the killing stopped. Same with this one. I will get him or her.

A state contracted predator hunter told me (this was in 2017) That an extensive TPWD study showed that one breeding pair of coyotes can "and will" kill 50 whitetail fawns during the late spring and early summer.
I take em out at every opportunity unless by doing so I will blow a deer hunt.

Don, do you snare/trap it yourself? Do you have access to a govt trapper in your area?

Unless you interrupted them in the middle of it, ive never seen coyotes leave more than a few tufts of fur blowing in the breeze.

My neighbors do not let people on their property to hunt. Only the one neighbor that lets me work on them.

The first two lambs were eaten into two pieces. The coyote took the front half on both of them. They like the heart liver and lungs, The back half was left here. The last kill was a larger lamb. The coyote cut open the belly and ate the heart, liver and lungs from the inside. You can see from the picture the blood on the neck how it was killed.

I agree, just wondered if there is a shot at it being dogs?

I guess its always different. I have put a couple hogs up to 200 pounds on our gut pile and they disappear in a matter of hours and then again some sit till the maggots are done with them.

Dogs don't kill by grabbing the animal under the neck and dogs don't open up the belly and eat the heart liver and lungs. And no it did not have a broken leg.
