I hesitate to admit it, but once we were talking about his trouble finding a good woman just like his mom. You folks that know my wife realize he is in for a search before he finds one like her!

Anyhow I told him to be patient as she is looking for him too. I also told him he will need ‘practice girlfriends’ to occupy him while he searched for his mate. He agreed.

I don’t think he gets it. I meant for him to date several girls at the same time. Commit some to each but commit all to none until the right one shows up. Then commit all to her.

So far, disaster. He takes then one at a time and they take from him and want more. First one took money, time and construction skills from him. The next one took his dog Daisy. That ain’t settled yet, I love that dog, she doesn’t deserve Daisy. This one moved in and made him buy her a purse dog that has never set foot on the ground.

It is hard for me, but I must remain mute until he asks advice.

And he knows that I WILL NOT raise my grandchild. Been there done that.

Man, I feel your pain. We dodged some big ol' bullets back when our kids were dating. Unfortunately, we also wound up catching a couple. I have 3 son-in-laws and 1 daughter-in-law.

When you have little ones, you have no idea that one day they'll grow up and pick a partner that is going to have a direct effect on your life, and especially your holidays, for the rest of your natural life...and there's not a dam thing you can do about it. Oh, you can voice an opinion, but that can sometimes have the opposite effect you want it to.

'Can't say I'm "buddy-buddy" with any of my son-in-laws, but I continue to try. 'Had a huge blow up with one of them a couple of Thanksgivings ago. And the daughter-in-law is uber liberal with a woman's right to have an abortion being an almost pathological central theme in her life. I have my theory on why that is, but we'll never know. She and my son have given us one granddaughter that we love very much, but it is a weird situation. This is the woman that took my sons testicles at the wedding ceremony and she just won't give them back.

One daughter dated a football player for a while. I called him "the human paper weight". 'Couldn't string two sentences together to save his life. He got asked to the Vikings training camp, but washed out.
Another daughter dated an east coast son of two lawyers for a while. Another uber liberal. He'd previously lived with a girl that taught on an Indian Reservation in Montana. I asked which tribe. He didn't know. But they're the caring party, don't you know.
