I beg to differ....those cats eat deer, goats, sheep, and lots of animals that all eat grass and weeds....I figure a vegan Austin lib would be pretty much the same.... Besides, they are easier to catch and don’t have as much body hair....

have been all over that arear for 35yrs A lot longer than that.... Yes, MUCH longer. Confirmed sightings as far back as the mid-60's when I was living there. I'm sure longer than that. But as Austin continues to grow and swallow up all of what used to be smaller towns and rural areas....the cats are no doubt being pushed farther out. 'Georgetown' is a new one for me, but most areas Northwest of Austin (out 183/620/1431 to the Lake) in years past always had reports. Leander, Cedar Park, etc. Also, Southwest of Austin....particularly from Oakhill out. (Dripping Springs, Henly) area. Pretty much anywhere along Hwy 71 in the 'Devils Backbone'. I'm sure no one here other than me is old enough to remember Texas Game Warden 'Grover Simpson', but he was pretty much an icon and legend all around the Austin area. Back then...TPWD kept actual Cougar sightings/verified prints sort of 'hush-hush' so as not to alarm to folks. But Grover indicated that there were more large cats present than people would think. I'm sure all that has changed now. It makes me sad to see what Austin and the surrounding towns have turned into these days. Such is 'progress' I suppose. https://tpwmagazine.com/archive/2012/may/LLL-Simpson/

yep, doesn't surprise me as I grew up around this area and been in Georgetown for about 40 years. There was a large male mountain lion killed just east of Seward Junction about 1015 years ago, hit by a car. My BIL knew the guy in the trailing car that called the GW. I've seen several around Lake Buchanan on the eastern side. There was one around Leander/Cedar Park a couple months back that was caught on security camera in a neighborhood. They are around for sure.

Georgetown surprises me a bit...but I guess anywhere along the San Gabriel could support a cat or two. Tons of native artifacts along the North and South San Gabriel, so it has always been used by man and animals alike.

Not terribly surprised by this story, rumors of big cats in this area have been around for quite some time, including one allegedly killed just a few miles east of my house in the late 80's

There have always been cats around I believe. Around the San Antonio area, I have talked to numerous ranchers and country folk who have seen cats. There is a creek here that runs under I-10 called "Woman Hollering Creek" and it was named a long time ago because of hearing big cats howl, probably female in heat or a male chasing her.

We see coons, possum, skunk, coyotes, fox and occasional bobcat at our place. There is still quite a bit of untouched land between the North & South San Gabriel especially along the Middle San Gabriel.

we used to go dirt bike riding on the southern part of the base south of Killeen, camped there a few times even. We heard something that was either a bobcat or mountain lion squalling on more than one occasion at night. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

It's the largest military reservation and it's a big, wild place. The only place I have ever seen live rattlesnakes and I have seen some big ones out there. I almost stepped on a big coiled up rattler just outside the door of a building in Boaz mout site. Bats live in some of the buildings out there too. It's a one of a kind place out there to have that much city and that much country mixed together like that.
