I just go back from an axis hunt in Rocksprings and my buddy and I each shot really big axis. Is there anywhere that I can see a list of the top 100 scoring axis? I am sure ours are not in the top hundred but I would like to know how far off they are. I have not scored my buddies but mine came out to 158 SCI. I think my buddies is a little bigger. Would this be considered "record book" ? [Linked Image]

Can't see the SCI record book without a membership but found a post that's a couple years old with a pic of the top 10 axis by method. If it's truly 158" and shot with a gun, you'll be just outside top 10. Again, the post is a few years old, so it's possible it could be a little lower.

No matter what, it's a great axis.

Was this free range or high fence? if its free range as it stands looks like top 50 for the typical axis but if they are considering it non typical because of the extra point then top 10 depends on how much it shrinks with the 60 day wait to score it for the books for SCI. That is a really nice Axis deer congrats on a great trophy!

I shot it with a 30/06 on a 6000 acre low fence ranch in rock springs. Wow I didn't know it was that good. Thank you. I really need to measure my friends. It has longer tines but not as wide. Both were between 33-34 long

I believe the #10 SCI free range typical axis deer with rifle scored 168 2/8 and non-typical scored 176 5/8.

Yours could be #6 as a Non-typical entry

Take them to an official scorer for SCI. Many taxidermists are official scorers.

To enter them, you'll first have to join SCI as a member. Once you do that, there is a list of approved scorers in your area; HOWEVER, if it's a potential top 20 entry, it will have to scored by a certified master scorer and those are a little more scarce. If you are going to get it entered, you might as well start with the master scorer as it will end up there anyway.

Thank you. I plan on sending it away to a taxidermist soon. Will that matter when it comes to scoring it?

Not if he's an official scorer.

You need to be above 170" to consider record book

Not sure what you are reading Sparrish8 but OP specifically asked about the SCI record book and the if his 7 pt Axis qualifies as a Non-Typical as per SCI and his 158" estimate is close, he'd be a Top 10 SCI Non-Typ as shown several posts above.

It doesn't matter if it's been mounted before scoring- all that is required is that it meets the minimum drying time.

This is my friends big one. I just measured it at 153 5/8
I thought it was bigger then mine but it doesn't have a lot of width.

It's a great Axis no doubt but I believe Barashingas post to be correct the #10 Axis non typical which is what it would be with the extra point is 176", I've killed 3 good Axis in the 160s so I checked into it a year or 2 ago and we determined to make the books you needed to be around 170.
