I was fairly certain this was a copperhead we found. The snake was about 1 1/2 feet long going across the road.

Def a copperhead, but doesn't look like a broad branded. Where did you see this?

Over here in Inez Texas, ten miles east of Victoria, part of the coastal plains, the copperheads most often have this coloring> I have caught or killed dozens in the last twenty years on my 3.5 acres.

Def a copperhead, but doesn't look like a broad branded. Where did you see this? Near Lake Cedar Creek, Eustace, TX. I ran over it on purpose since it was in a residential area by the lake. There were lots of houses around, and I was pretty certain it was a copper head.

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Non venomous snakes get a pass from me. But venomous snakes generally get killed.

We are covered up in those things this year out on Ray Roberts. Our little dog got bit last week by one and had to go through a bunch of antibiotics. I am guessing the high water has them all very active because we are seeing a bunch, rat snakes too. I am killing all I see, just too many around and not safe for my family.

I had no idea there were three subspecies of copperheads! Yep, and overlap in certain areas. (Broadband overlaps both East and West).

This foot-long little guy was in a pile of firewood in Montague county. Don't know whether they outgrow the yellow tail tip?? (Sorry for the off-focus, my grandson was a bit shook)

(Sorry for the off-focus, my grandson was a bit shook) They DO outgrow the fluorescent yellow tail. Juvenile Water Moccasin also sport the yellow tail (sometimes greenish/yellow).

Texas has three subspecies of copperheads....southern in the eastern part of the state.....broad band in central to western Texas and the Trans-Pecos in the Trans-Pecos region... Southern copperheads are one of the snakes that got reclassed in '09. Now they're called eastern copperheads. Broadbands and trans-Pecos stayed the same. Also, Texas rat snakes (elaphae obsolta) are now western ratsnakes (panthrophis obsoletus), all blind snakes are now thread snakes, some milksnakes have changed, most species of water snakes now fall into the plain-bellied criteria....I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right this minute.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

(I live on the lake with a Eustace address - far end of Caney Creek) Been here just under two years and have only seen water snakes so far, but I saw Copperheads almost daily when I lived in Bastrop County.
