The Boston Terrorist got sprayed by a skunk Friday night. He apparently took it right in the face. After numerous baths at home with everything from Hydrogen Peroxide to Vanilla Extract and the special stuff from the pet store, then 2 skunk baths at the vet he still has a little stink to him.

Other than his unpleasant aroma he's no worse for the wear. He looked pretty pathetic all day yesterday though.

After having my Guys get hit numerous times out at the old Ranchito, I found apple dish washing soap to be the best stuff to take the smell out or at least knock it down. Wash the little booger about 4 or 5 times then put creme rinse on the Guy. Done.

Haven’t spent much time around terriers, I take it.

my blue heeler is a DA when it comes to skunks ...

1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap (Apple scent works best, as Glens stated)

wear rubber gloves, wash your dog with this mixture immediately, do not get it in their eyes.

I agree with this mixture! Both dogs got skunked, while we were bathing one dog the other dog was rolling in the sand the entire time. By the time we got to the second dog the smell was incredibly weaker. We think the sand absorbed the skunk oils, and have heard that water will get the skunk oils down to the skin where it stays and harder to wash off. So we took the first dog who had the bath and still smelled like skunk and scrubbed sand all over her which really helped remove the smell. If they get skunked again we will first start with the sand scrub. And of course wear rubber gloves!

We tried that one, did knock it down a lot. Then we read about a mixture of vanilla extract and water and that helped get it down some more.

Saturday morning I ran to Petsmart and got some skunk remover. It actually had him skunk free for a bit, but the smell came back. Vet tried as well with no luck.

Since he took it straight tot he face, I think it's all those creases and wrinkles and just hard to get out.

To top it all off, since he took it in the face, it messed one of his eyes up a little. Vet sent us home with two different kinds of eye drops to put in 4X a day. That's a fun treat.

we used to have a Boston, she never learned from her multiple encounters with skunks ... I have found that using the mixture I listed earlier to apply it to a dry coat and scrub in well before applying any water. That helps a lot

I promise you he didn't. He's a slow learner. He has attempted to eat, and been stung by no less than a couple dozen wasps/bees/yellow jackets.

Prey drive...gets them every time. My lab and cocker are equally dumb on stuff like that. Fortunately if we go somewhere there might be "critters" I keep them on a much shorter leash than I probably should. Good luck and sorry for the mess...that's awful.

Reminds me of elementary school, always had a family under the schools. Faint enough to smell ok.

Had one spray my vehicle while working security at an airport...man that thing stunk!

Today is day 6 and the dog still stinks. I read that skunk smell, untreated lasts 14-21 days. I would have thought that all the baths he's had would have knocked a couple weeks off of that total but no dice. I'm starting to think about trading him in on a new dog that doesn't stink.

I hit a skunk with my pickup, it was almost 8 hours before I could wash it. That pickup smelled of skunk for at least a week. I washed it underneath several times. it rained, so I drove it through every deep water intersection I could find. It still stunk. After about a week it finally was gone.

I had a malamute/husky mix in colorado that thought skunks were a snack, I lived on a lake so we had plenty around.

still have no clue how she could get them into her run so she could kill them and try to eat them, fun times, NOT!

she slept in the house when she didn't stink of skunk, when she got one it was outdoors for a couple of weeks till stink was gone.
