Wanting to buy my wife a dog - small in size and good in the house . What do you recommend?

6 months back my wife wanted a small dog for the house. I fought it and fought it until one day she found one on Craigslist, it was a little maltipoo puppy. I begrudgingly rode with her to pick it up. He was very sick and almost died the first day we got it but he slowly got better. I love that little dog, he is cool and has a great personality. Also gets along great with our black mouth cur.

We had a dachshund....he didn’t last long. Those arnt my favorites

Shih Tzu....they don’t shed, are cute, and tough...this little bugger gives our pointers all they can handle....

Our local humane society group always has a bunch of small mixed breed dogs on their list of available dogs. Nothing better than a rescue dog.

English Mastiff

Dachshunds are great people dogs and love sitting in you lap. I also have a 70 lb. black lab. that sleeps in my lap quite often.

Shih Tzu

I second the rat terrier...

Shih Tzu will shed, but not much if you keep them brushed. They have a double coat, so it basically sheds unto itself and then you brush it off. They can be extremely intelligent dogs and are definitely companion animals. My dog, Preema, was the best dog I've ever had and one of the smartest. She lived to be just over 17 years old before she passed in February 2018. I have two of her pups and the girl is smart and stubborn like Preema...Cookies is sweet like his momma, but the boy isn't the brightest bulb in the box...I blame that on the sire, because he was a bit goofy.

Neighbor has two of them. Love them but get tongue tied pronouncing the breed.

Just say NO to any Dachsund, my parents had those growing up. They are as stubborn as can be... they would crap on the floor after you would let them back in just to make a point.

Miniature schnauzer. No shedding and not fragile like some of the other dogs
